Material collected by Principal John Humphreys Davies (1871-1926) when he was editing The Life and Opinions of Robert Roberts ..., including notes on the career of Robert Roberts (1834-1885) by J. H. Davies and Howell Roberts (Hywel Tudur) (1842?-1922) and letters, mainly to J. H. Davies.

The file includes letters from J. H. Davies, Cwrt-mawr, J. Gwenogvryn Evans (2), H. Tobit Evans (2), John M. Howell, Aberaeron, John Gwili Jenkins ('Gwili'), Thomas A. Levi, Aberystwyth (2), H. R. Reichel, Sir John Rhys, R. D. Rowland ('Anthropos'), and D. Lleufer Thomas.

An incomplete essay (pp. 1-11, 39-44, 97-106) on 'Cymry Enwog hanner cyntaf y ddeunawfed ganrif, a'u dylanwad ar Lenyddiaeth Cymru. Great Welshmen of the first half of the 18th Century, and their influence on Welsh Literature', which was awarded the prize at the National Eisteddfod at Wrexham, 1912. There are some comments by J. H. Davies, who was one of the adjudicators.

Some forty-three letters, 1904-1965, to T. I. Ellis from family members, including his grandfather Thomas Ellis, Cynlas, 1904; his uncle J. H. Davies, 1915-1918 (3); his aunt Lily, [?1925]-1932 and undated (14); and his Auntie Winnie, 1940-1958 (17, some addressed to Mari Ellis).

The file includes letters from D. R. Daniel (1), 1914, J. Glyn Davies (3), 1903-1907 and J. H. Davies (2), 1918.

A composite tour journal, in English, compiled, 1924, by T. I. Ellis, J. H. Davies, Annie J. Hughes-Griffiths and Herbert Morgan while on a three week tour on the Continent (32 ff.). Also included is one leaf of an article by T. I. Ellis entitled 'Teithiadur Cyfansawdd (V)' reproducing parts of the journal in translation, and another manuscript article, 'Deugain mlynedd yn ôl' by T. I. Ellis, [1964], reflecting on the forty years elapsed since the trip (9 ff.).
