Sermons,

A collection of twenty-one sermons by, and in the autograph of, the Rev. Micah Thomas, first Principal of the Abergavenny Baptist Academy. These sermons were written in 1817-1819 and were delivered by him at Abergavenny during that period and also in 1842-1851. Loosely inserted in the volume is another autograph sermon which he delivered at Abergavenny on Sept 26, 1819. Paper; 178 ff., unnumbered; 164x103; diced sheepskin.

Volume of sermons and sermon notes apparently by, and in the autograph of, Morgan Lewis, Coesforgan, Sirhowy, Monmouthshire, whose name appears on the fly-leaf. Pasted on the inside of the front cover is the inscription: 'W. Thomas Islwyn Feby. 1858 Ynysddu'. Paper; 27 pp., incorrectly numbered 25, and 115 unnumbered pages, many of which are blank; 182 x 115; morocco, with blind tooling.

Volume of seven sermons on the sixth chapter of Isaiah preached in Banbury by Thomas Bradbury. At the beginning of the volume is a dedicatory letter addressed to Richard Bancroft, archbishop of Canterbury. Paper; 1 unnumbered folio, 1-82; 193 x 150; full parchment.

A collection of sermons by, and in the autograph of, the Rev. Edmund Jones of Tranch, Pontypool, consisting of four sermons entitled 'Of Satan's Filling The Hearts of Sinners' (Acts V, 1-3); two sermons entitled ,0f Ungodliness'(Titus XI, 11-12); one sermon entitled 'The Evil of Self-Ignorance' (2 Cor. XIII, 5); and one sermon entitled '0f the General Corruption of the Natural Temper of Mankind' (Gen. VI, 5). Loosely inserted in the volume are two folios (pp. 133-134 and 147-148) from a volume of sermons in the autograph of Edmund Jones, and two letters (6, 11 Oct.1924) from E. I. Williams, Pontypridd, to [Major Addams-Williams, Llangibby Castle], relating to the sale of the writer's manuscripts of Edmund Jones. Paper; 189 pp. 199 x 155; quarter vellum.

Sermon notes,

A volume of sermons and sermon notes. Some of these were delivered at Preston, Kingswood, and Lapw[orth] between 1662 and 1665. A note in pencil on the fly-leaf states that the volume is in the autograph of the Reverend Matthew Henry. Howeer, a short description of the volume by 'D.R.T.' in the form of a newspaper cutting pasted on the inside of the front cover states that, in view of the dates of some of the sermons, the volume must be in the autograph, not of Matthew, but of his father, Philip Henry, the eminent Nonconformist divine. Paper; 502 pp., unnumbered; 163 x 118; full calf, damaged at the spine, and with remnants of two clasps.

Schedules of state accounts,

A composite volume consisting of: (1) a schedule of books, accounts, and papers delivered by Geo. Toilet, secretary to the late Commissioners of Accounts, to Paul Jodrell, esq., clerk to the House of Commons,15 April 1697, together with a memorandum. Of their delivery and also an acknowledgement of the receipt of other books on 1 December 1697. These accounts embrace the period 1606-1697 and are classified and arranged in alphabetical order. (2) A similarly arranged schedule of accounts embracing the. Period 1685-1704. On the outside front cover is the inscription: 'A Copy of the Books and Papers Delivered by Gregry King Esq. Secretary to the Com[m]issLion]ers of Accounts for the years 1702 and 1703. To Paul Joddrel Esq. Clark to the Hon House of Commons'.On the fly-leaf is the inscription: 'MSS. Carew'. Paper; pp. 1-93 some unnumbered, and some wrongly numbered, and pp. 1-79, wrongly numbered; 317 x 197; full parchment.
