The file comprises notes on the descent of Mary Owen of Brymbo. Her daughter, Jane, married Watkin Wynne, son of Cadwalader Wynne of Voelas and his wife, Jane (née Jane Griffith of Garn).

The series comprises original compositions and copies of works both published and unpublished, written in English, Welsh and Latin, consisting of poems, translations, essays and stories about contemporary and historical events and local figures, [1660]-1925, a script for a public address, [1834], and suggestions for a commemorative inscription, 1815.

Letters (Griffith family)

The group comprises letters written by members of the Griffith family of Garn, mainly the family of John Wynne Griffith, and close relatives, 1724, 1783-1876, with many details of family life, social activities, travel abroad, the children's school and university days, the progression of John Wynne Griffith's sons in their careers and assistance to their father in managing the estate, and acquaintance with other well-known families in north-east Wales, such as Clough, Kirkwall, Shipley, Jones of Llysmeirchion and Wynne of Plasnewydd, and letters from other correspondents addressed to various members of the Griffith family, 1733-1943, on many different subjects, the most frequently recurrent being estate business, particularly disputes over enclosures and encroachments, rights on crown lands, purchase of property and questions of title, legal and financial complications of the Plasnewydd estate trust, Denbigh borough and parliamentary elections, contemporary national and local events during the Napoleonic Wars, and public duties of individuals.

The file comprises letters, 1789-1809, mainly to her husband, John Wynne Griffith, about local social acquaintances and the Hunter family of Birmingham, vestry meetings at Henllan for landowners 'claiming their property in the church', 1804, requests for fabric and personal items, intention of Miss Giffard to sell lands in Henllan, 1807, and to Jane Evans on the unfairness of legacies left by Mrs Myddleton, with a remedy for illness.

The file comprises letters to John Griffith (2) of Garn, 1733-1757; correspondents include John Hosier, 1747-1757, on estate business, and Thomas Evans of Cambridge, 1750, describing Conyers Middleton's attack on the Bishop of London's Scheme of Prophesy. Other subjects not already discussed include trusteeship of the Voelas estate, destruction of personal papers in the fire at Garn in 1738, lawsuits, especially concerning title to Cwyber, 1739-1744, grazing rights in the Forest of Snowdon, 1748, mining, 1754, county election news, 1754. Drafts or copies of replies by John Griffith are dated 1745-1758.
