Tithe accounts

The file comprises tithe accounts for Merllyn, Bryn Issa and Garn, demands for payment of tithe to the parishes of Cwm, Rhyl, Rhuddlan, Llanefydd and Llanrwst, with receipts and occasional covering letters, 1841-1844, 1904.

Mortgage of Cwyber and Tre-Llewelin

The file comprises a mortgage for £1000 dated 1760, by John Griffith (3) to Robert Wynne of Garthewin, of Cwyber and Tre-Llewelin in the parish of Rhuddlan, Flintshire, preceded by a deed to make a tenant to the precipe, 1759, to enable a recovery to be suffered to the use of the said John Griffith. This mortgage followed shortly after the death of John Griffith (2) in 1759, presumably a time of considerable expense, and indeed legal records suggest that his personal estate was insufficient to meet all the debts.

The file comprises letters by Harriet Griffith to her father, 1820, about social engagements, friendship of Mrs Botfield, overspending on clothes, unhappiness of the Dean of St Asaph concerning his son and his illness, schooldays at Mrs Gifford's, to her brother, William, 1832, about furthering his legal career, and to Maria Griffith, her sister-in-law, 1842, on the death of Charlotte Griffith.

The file comprises a letter, 1858, to his cousin, [William] Douglas Wynne Griffith, written from Gibraltar, on the subjects of shooting game birds, dogs, hunting, a fatal shipwreck, and meeting Lord Cardigan and [Adeline] de Horsey after their elopement.

The file comprises letters to John Griffith (2) of Garn, 1733-1757; correspondents include John Hosier, 1747-1757, on estate business, and Thomas Evans of Cambridge, 1750, describing Conyers Middleton's attack on the Bishop of London's Scheme of Prophesy. Other subjects not already discussed include trusteeship of the Voelas estate, destruction of personal papers in the fire at Garn in 1738, lawsuits, especially concerning title to Cwyber, 1739-1744, grazing rights in the Forest of Snowdon, 1748, mining, 1754, county election news, 1754. Drafts or copies of replies by John Griffith are dated 1745-1758.

The file comprises a letter to Hugh Roberts of Gwydir and Llwyn Gronw from John Wynn of Watstay, concerning the Caernarfonshire election, 1713.
