Hunting book,

Volume containing verses entitled ‘All Saints Run 1862’, and various hunting notes, 1897-1898. Loose enclosures include verses entitled ‘The Welter Steeple Chase’, ‘Ode to an old friend who dwelt at Cwmerrae Cefngwyn’, [1863 watermark], and ‘Aberystwyth Races, April 11, 1866’.

George Griffith Williams papers,

Original bundle of papers relating to Colonel George Griffith Williams of Cwmcynfelyn (b. 1832) and later his widow Sarah Jane Williams, including letters, receipts, deeds and miscellaneous papers. Also copy of the will of Emma Davies of Tanybwlch (d. 1872) naming Col. Williams as executor and trustee, and later documents dealing with his role in the administration of her estate.

Invoices and receipts,

Mainly local invoices and receipts. The papers include an envelope containing Rev. Davies's prescriptions, 1869-1883; and Scinde Punjab & Dehli Railway Co. capital stock interest warrants, 1874-1884, including a printed appeal from the chairman and directors for 6d. in the pound of the present dividend for an endowment fund for a clergyman for the Europeans at the company headquarters at Lahore, 1877. Some of the papers from Tregaron businesses have been collected into an envelope.

Letters,

The letters are mainly from T. Lloyd Edwardes of Lampeter, solicitor, to Mrs Davies, 1884-1889. They also include a letter of attorney from John Jones of Pentre, Tregaron, saddler, appointing Rev. Octavius Davies his attorney in the matter of the trustees of the will and codicils of Thomas Davies, 1878, a further letter asking him to continue receiving his money, 1881; and a letter from the secretary of the Penygraig Explosion Relief Fund to Mary Jones of Aberdwr, asking for a letter from a minister or gentleman confirming that she remains unmarried and of good conduct as to justify continued relief, 1887.

Matthew Davies of Cwmcynfelyn, p. Llangorwen,

Original bundle of papers, mainly 1813-1825, relating to a dispute between the legitimate and illegitimate children of Matthew Davies of Cwmcynfelyn, esq., and more particularly to a dispute about his will between his legitimate daughters, Anne, wife of Isaac Lloyd Williams, and Jane, wife of Lewis Davies, comprising statements of facts written by William Cobb Gilbertson who was a close friend of the family and one of the trustees named in the said will, correspondence relating to the dispute and about attempts to mediate in the same, and including a rental of the Cwmcynfelyn estate in p's Llangynfelyn, Llanbadarn Fawr, Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn and Llangwyryfon, 1813, and including papers of Rev. Isaac Williams of Ystrad Teilo, Llanrhystud, father of the said Isaac Lloyd Williams, 1797-1811, including a copy of his claim against the Peterwell estate, 1797, and copy will (includes a bequest of his books and manuscript sermons, and appoints William Cobb Gilbertson one of his trustees), 1811, and a statement by William Cobb Gilbertson about the financial position of the estate, 1849.

Lead mining at Goginan, p. Llanbadarn Fawr,

Original bundle of miscellaneous mining papers comprising a section of Goginan mine, p. Llanbadarn Fawr, [?1850x1875]; a report following an inspection of Goginan mine, with covering letter, 1887, account of rents from Gilbertson's Cottages, 1890; and sections of the Bwlch and Level Newydd mines at Goginan, with covering letter, 1904. Original wrapper marked 'Goginan'.

Miscellaneous papers,

Miscellaneous papers relating to Downie's bequest and to the Aberystwyth Infirmary & Cardiganshire General Hospital. Includes tenders to print 500 copies of the Downie's scheme, 1879, including specimens of paper and type, including [Absalom Francis], 'History of the Cardiganshire mines', [1874], pp. 23-26. Also includes a list of lady visitors' books, 1879; printed rules and regulations of the Aberystwyth Infirmary & Cardiganshire General Hospital, 1880; and a printed appeal for subscriptions, 1881.

Sermons,

Notebook of sermons and prayers (in Welsh). At the reverse end are notes (in English) of Richard Jones of St Clement Danes charity, in 1786 bequeathing £5000 in 3 per cents, including to educate 6 poor boys and 6 poor girls, £3 to twelve sober poor householders, and the interest of £66 13s. 4d. (viz. £2) to the bishop of St Davids to bestow in premiums on two scholars educated in the diocese of St Davids.

Rev. Hugh Felix and Margaretta Davies marriage settlement,

Original bundle of deeds, letters, accounts and related papers relating to the marriage settlement (dated 1841) of Rev. Hugh Felix of Lampeter and Margaretta Davies of Neuaddfach, p. Llanfair-ar-y-bryn, co. Carm., spinster, daughter of Thomas Davies, late of Pantglase, p. Llanfynydd, gent., dec., and mainly relating to the determination of the trust, 1872-1873. Hugh Felix lists the children as Margaret Elizabeth (b. 8 Oct. 1841), Mary Anne Jane (b. 15 Dec. 1842), Morgan Davies (b. 6 March 1844, d. 10 June 1844), Henry Davies (b. 29 May 1846), David (b. 10 June 1848, d. 30 Oct. 1869), Catherine (b. 29 April 1850, d. 29 Nov. 1869). Margaretta Felix died 9 March 1852; one of the trustees, Rev. Peter Felix, died 1 Feb. 1861, the surviving trustee, Rev. John Morgan (Margaretta's step-father) died 12 Nov. 1864, and no new trustees were appointed. The papers include a copy (1871 watermark) of the marriage settlement, 1841; schedule of deeds (1750-1872) relating to m's and lands called Tyry Tinker otherwise Llwyn cellin otherwise Pantglase, p. Llanybydder, and Tyr John David otherwise Cathilas otherwise Llwyn yr Inn, parcels of land called Waynlwyd formerly Wayngochissa, Llethyrmelyn and Glanfawr, part of Penlanfach farm, [c.1872]; abstract of title (1792-1845) of Pantglase, p. Llanybydder, and Llwyn yr Inn, p. Llanfynydd, co. Carm., 1872; and copy of the will (dated 1864, proved 1865) of Rev. John Morgan of Llandovery, co. Carm.

Llanilar footbridge,

Original bundle of vouchers for materials and labour for a footbridge over the river Ystwyth at Penbank near the village of Llanilar, 1849-1851, plus receipts for subscriptions, 1848, a rough account of subscribers in p's Llanbadarn Fawr and Llanilar, 1850, and a fair copy with accounts, 1850-1855.
