Case And Opinion Of Counsel relating to title to the goods of Thomas Jenkin of p. Llantwit Fardre, co. Glam., farmer, dec., in consequence of his having committed suicide, probably as a result of having been accused of having destroyed and forged the will of an un-named uncle. Papers relating to causes in Chancery between Elizabeth Jenkins, on behalf of herself and all the other creditors of Richard Davies otherwise Richard, complainant, and Thomas Caldecott, Attorney General for cos Glam., Brec., and Rad., Hugh Bold and William Bassett, esq's, executors and trustees, John, lord Cardiff, and Richard John, yeoman, defendants, 1789-1814, and Edward Thomas, esq., and others, plaintiffs, and Robert Jones of Fonmon Castle, esq., and others, defendants,1807, relating to the will, 1789, of the said Richard Davies otherwise Richard, late of the town of Llantrisant, gent., dec., the bastard son of David Richard, late of the same, cordwainer, dec., by Barbara Lord, and the provision of a charity for the maintenance and education of the children of poor Wesleyan Methodists in Cardiff and Cowbridge co. Glam. The executors claimed that as Richard Davies was illegitimate and died without issue, he had no heir at law to join them in the conveyance of his real estate, preventing the payment of the creditors and the realisation of any surplus; the Attorney General insisted that the provision of the charity was void in law, and that the executors are trustees of any surplus for the Crown; Richard John insisted that Richard Davies was legitimate, and that he is the heir at law; and John, lord Cardiff, claimed that as Richard Davies was illegitimate and died without issue, any surplus is escheated to him as lord of man. Senghennydd. The papers include extracts from the will of the said Richard Davies otherwise Richard (C132/8-9, 25); a schedule of goods sold, and also a m. and 80 a. in p. Porthceri and man. Pen-marc, and a m. and lands called Tyn-y-Wern, p. Eglwysilan, 1792 (C132/27-9), and a report on the number of children of poor Wesleyan Methodists in Cardiff and Cowbridge, 1793 (C132/30-1).
