Argument upon impositions.

Another copy of the Argument of Sir John Davies (1569-1626), written in two hands, one of which is similar to that of Nos. 40 and 48. This copy differs from MS 43 in that it has a table of contents at the beginning.

Argument upon impositions.

A copy of 'An argumt. uppon the question of Imposicons Digested and devided into sundry chapters by one of his Ma[jes]ties learned Counsell in Ireland', i.e. by Sir John Davies (1569-1626), with a dedication to the King [i.e. James I]. The manuscript is written in three hands, and is earlier than the date of the first printed version of the work (1656).

The letters are mostly from other landowners such as Robert Wynne of Garthewin, Edward Madocks and Uvedale Price; ones of particular interest are from Charles Bradshaw of Llangedwyn, reporting on Sir Watkin Williams Wynn’s horses, and from Dr William Cowper at Chester, discussing recent elections (Denbighshire and Devon) and the loan to Sir Watkin of a manuscript about the siege of Chester in the Civil War.
