Family and estate records of Griffith of Porthamal, Anglesey, and Llanfair, Caernarfonshire, Griffith of Brynodol, Caernarfonshire, and the associated families of Rowlands of Nant, Caernarfonshire, and Wynn of Taltreuddyn, Merionethshire. The estate records include rentals of the Llanfair estate, 1516-1669, the Brynodol estate, 1581-1751, the Cefnamwlch estate, 1630-1717, the Nant estate, 1702-1719, the Taltreuddyn estate, 1744-1848, the Llanfair and Brynodol estate, 1761-1832, and rentals from various other estates, 1615-1816; and deeds of the Porthamal and Llanfair estate, 1435-1673, the Brynodol (and later Llanfair and Brynodol) estate, 1564-1864, and the Taltreuddyn estate, 1664-1751. -- The archive also includes rentals of Crown rents in Anglesey, Caernarfonshire, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Merionethshire, 1558-1798, and ministers' accounts, 1365-1825; Caernarfon borough records, 1545-1783, including rentals of corporation property, lists of burgesses, and notes on the constitution of the borough and the appointment of officers; and a number of literary and historical manuscripts.

Microfilm copies, produced between 1980 and 1984, of the bulk of manuscripts held at Cardiff Central Library, commonly referred to as the 'Cardiff MSS'. The manuscripts are wide-ranging in date and content, from the 12th century manuscript 'Vita Sancti Winwaloi; Vitae Sanctorum', to twentieth-century diaries, letters, minute books and scrapbooks. The Cardiff MSS include one of the oldest and most important of Welsh manuscripts, namely the 13th century Book of Aneirin ('Llyfr Aneirin') containing eulogies for soldiers of the Gododdin tribe who died in a battle at Catterick, Yorkshire, around the year 600. Notable collections are included, such as the Tonn, Havod, Cadrawd, Scott, Bradley and Wooding groups of manuscripts, as well as a large number of individual items of literary, religious, philological, topographical, local, and genealogical interest. Manuscripts described by Gwenogvryn Evans in Reports on Manuscripts in the Welsh Language (Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts , London, 1898-1910), ii, pp. 91-345, 783-93 (with designated RMWL reference numbers), together with those manuscripts described by N. R. Ker in Medieval Manuscripts in British Libraries (Oxford, 1969-2002) (with designated MMBL reference numbers), are included, although catalogue entries do not usually contain descriptions of their content.

Records of the Vivian family, later barons Swansea, of Cornwall and Swansea, including records of the copper industry in Cornwall and Swansea (the Hafod works), 1720-1934; estate papers, 1853-1909; business and personal correspondence, 1807-1934, notably that of John Henry Vivian (1785-1855), and Henry Hussey Vivian, 1st Baron Swansea (1821-1894). The archive is a major source for the 19th century history of Swansea.

They reflect the voluntary arrangement that existed between 1959 and 1977, the expansion of activities which followed the formation of the English Language Section in 1968 and the contribution made by paid staff in the period after the award of a Welsh Arts Council Grant in 1977. The papers of the Welsh Language Section reflect the whole activities of the Academi up to the formation of the English Language Section. From then on, the papers are split into those of the Central Administration, the Welsh Language Section and the English Language Section. The collection includes general correspondence, administrative papers such as committee minutes, membership details and material relating to various publications, events and activities. Thirteen large boxes of records were received July 2013 and a further 2 large boxes in October 2013. These groups remains uncatalogued.

Records of the Brogyntyn estate, home of the Ormsby-Gore family, Barons Harlech, 1296-1951. They include estate papers and deeds, legal papers, financial papers, family papers and county administration papers of the Ormsby-Gore family, their ancestors, the Maurices and the Owens of Clenennau, the Wynns of Glyn and others, such as Anwyl of Park, Clayton of Lea Hall, Godolphin of Abertanat, Lyster of Penrhos, Mostyn of Nant, and Vaughan of Corsygedol. The three main estates represented in the collection are Brogyntyn, Clenennau and Glyn, the latter constituting a major addition to the existing North Wales holdings of Sir Robert Owen upon his marriage to Margaret Wynn in 1683. The documentation also covers other, subsiduary estates acquired by marriage or inheritance, namely Llanddyn, Sylfaen, Ystumcegid, Nant, Cemais, Penrhos, Abertanat and properties in the west of Ireland. Additional records, comprising Lord Harlech's Game Books (3 volumes), 1882-1933, a journal kept by W. R. Ormsby Gore of the 13th Light Dragoons, May-September 1854, two manuscript catalogues of plays, 1815, and a manuscript catalogue of the library at Porkington, 1809, were acquired in March 2017.
The Brogyntyn (Longueville) group comprises deeds and documents relating to the Brogyntyn estate, 1607-1977, deposited by Longueville Gittins solicitors who provided professional legal services to the estate.

The archive contains practically no personal or family papers.
