Hanes
The Dolgellau District was established sometime between 1837 and 1844. In 1844 the District comprised the following lodges: Idris, Mawddach, Llefenni, Erddyn, Llynlleoedd, Moelwyn, Madoc, Dovey, Brynmair, Syr John Edwards, Twrog, and Aran Mawddwy. By the end of the nineteenth century at the latest, the number of lodges had fallen to five, namely Idris, Mawddach, Syr John Edwards, Bera Castle, and Mawddwy. During the second half of the nineteenth century a number of lodges had transferred to other districts, such as Llynlleoedd and Dovey Lodges to the Aberystwyth District, Madoc Lodge to the Cambrian and Festiniog District, and the Brynmair Lodge to the Montgomery District. The District itself was amalgamated with the Aberystwyth District in 1916. The records appear to have been transferred to the Gwalia District Secretary sometime after amalgamation.
