Bu'n athro Saesneg yn Ysgol Filton ger Bryste cyn ei benodi'n gymrawd ymchwil yng Ngholeg Prifysgol Cymru Aberystwyth, yna'n ddarlithydd mewn Addysg ym Mhrifysgol Sussex, lle yr ennillodd radd D. Phil. ym 1986. Yn 2002 fe'i penodwyd yn Athro Addysg Gelfyddydol cyntaf Prifysgol Sussex, yna'n Athro Ysgrifennu Creadigol yn yr un sefydliad. Ymddeolodd yn 2006. = The English poet and academic Peter Francis Abbs (1942-2020) was born in Cromer, Norfolk, the son of Eric Charles and Mary (née Bullock), and educated at St Peter's Seminary, Liverpool, Norwich Technical College and Bristol University. He taught English at Filton School near Bristol before being appointed research fellow at University College of Wales Aberystwyth, then lecturer in Education at Sussex University, where he gained a D. Phil in 1986. In 2002, he was appointed the first Professor of Arts Education at Sussex University, then Professor of Creative Writing at the same establishment. He retired in 2006. In 2000, he became poetry editor of the periodical Resurgence and, in 2002, he co-edited Earth Songs, one of the first poetic anthologies on an environmental theme. Peter Abbs authored ten collections of poetry and numerous works discussing creative writing and the philosophy of education. He married, in 1963, Barbara Beazeley (divorced 2002), with whom he had three children, one of whom is the author Annabel Abbs, born in 1964.
