Vol. I. Two letters to Mr Leighton are pasted at the beginning of the volume, one from John Bennett, the bookseller who had sold the manuscript to him, and one from Stephen Donne, nephew of the John Donne from whom the bookseller had acquired the manuscript. These are followed by a sheet, written towards the beginning of the eighteenth century, giving a brief description of the contents of the original volume with some remarks on the character of the scribe - Edward Lloyd of Llanvorda, near Oswestry. This volume consists of a letter book of Edward Lloyd from 1676 to 1678, containing copies of letters addressed by him to several persons, with copes of a few other letters. Many of the letters signed E. Ll. refer to his interests in the herring trade. The last letter, which is incomplete, gives an account of the treatment which he received in the districts around the river Dyfi.
