Biographical history

The Owen family seemed to have possessed Garthanghrad since 1722 at the latest. Edward Owen, who died in around 1855, was a successful solicitor in Dolgellau.

Archival history

The archive is named after the domicile of the depositor which was once a part of the Nannau estate. It is possible that some, if not all the records emigrated from the home or the offices of Edward Owen of Garthangharad, a Dolgellau solicitor, to Dol'rhyd.

Immediate source of acquisition or transfer

Deposited by Brigadier C. Hilary V. Pritchard, Dol'rhyd, Dolgellau, in August and September 1949, and purchased by NLW in 1975.
