Comprises a desk diary for 1979 kept intermittently by Philip Weekes with full details of his professional activities and engagements, mainly in the service of the National Coal Board. A few of the pages have been ripped out of the diary. There is also a large National Coal Board memorandum book bearing full intermittent entries by Philip Weekes for the period January 1981 until June 1985 relating mainly to his work for the National Coal Board and covering the period during the build-up to the 1984-85 miners' strike and its early months. The diary also contains stray manuscript notes, typescript memoranda, and cuttings from newspapers and journals. There is also a bound photocopy of the same diary for 1981-1985 and the additional material.
