Records of the Welsh estate of the Crosse family of Shaw Hill, Lancashire, comprising records of the Thelwall family of Nantclwyd, Bathafarn Park and Plas Coch, Denbighshire, and of the associated families of Parry of Nantclwyd and Ruthin, Gethin of Cernioge, and Kenrick of Woore, Shropshire, London, and Chester, all of whose estates the Crosse family appears to have acquired. The archive includes Civil War papers, 1642-1644, illustrating some of the activities of the sheriff of Denbighshire- John Thelwall of Plas Coch- and of the Commissioners of Array between November 1642, and April 1644, letters, mainly 17-18 cent., and deeds and miscellaneous documents, 1441-1796, relating mainly to Parry and Thelwall estates in Denbighshire.

A notebook recording sums of money expended on clothes, schooling, books, etc., for Hedd Lloyd [of Hafodunos] ? by his sister, 1662-1668, and rents received and disbursements made in respect of the Hauodynos estate, 1666-1669. An indenture (parchment) dated 19 October 1637, being a further mortgage of a parcel of land called ffrith y kreigie in Branan and Marchalett, co. Denbigh, has been sewn on as a protective covering.

Among the records are the pre-nuptial settlement of Edward Rogers of Bryn Eglwys in Iâl and Gwen Morgan, daughter of Morgan Pugh of Llandrillo, 1724; probate records of Morgan Pugh of Vaerdre, parish of Llandrillo, 1740, John Edwards of Maesyllan, parish of Rhiwabon, Denbighshire [son and heir of Edward Rogers of Bryn Eglwys in Iâl], 1806, Edward Rees of Wern y pennant, parish of Llanfechan, Montgomeryshire, 1819 (with administration annexed, 1822), and John Rees of Llanrhaiadr yn Mochnant, Denbighshire, 1846; and a coloured plan of allotments of common in the parish of Llandrillo, 1837. Also included in the volume is a schedule of title-deeds, 1848-1925, relating to a property previously in the possession of Sir Robert Williames Vaughan, Bart., of Rug.
