Scope and content
The DBRW is responsible for the industrial development of Mid-Wales and it pursues a vigorous construction programme for the fulfilment of this aim. The DBRW believed that the provision of housing linked to industrial growth was essential for the region to achieve sustainable development. It built extensively in Newtown, including the development of the Vastre and Mochdre industrial estates, and the Vaynor, Treowen and Trehafren housing estates. It also constructed factories and housing in all the counties under its jurisdiction. The decision to construct units was made by the construction committee, which reported to the Board. These files provide evidence of the execution of that policy. They include correspondence, contracts for work and estate plans, and they clearly demonstrate the Board's commitment to the development of Mid-Wales. The following files were not transferred to NLW: 26, 28, 32-33, 38, 45, 53, 56-57, 81, 87, 106, 108, 110-111, 121, 135, 142-143, 145, 151-152, 172, 176, 180-184 and 187.
