D.Roy Evans of Brynmarlog, Newcastle Emlyn, was a solicitor with the firm D. Roy Evans and Jones, and may have been a distant relative of the author Anne Adaliza Puddicombe (Allen Raine).

Anne Adaliza Puddicombe (Allen Raine, 1836-1908), author, a daughter of a solicitor, was born in Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire. At the age of thirteen she moved, with her sister, to live in Cheltenham and Wandsworth with Henry Solly, a Unitarian minister. She moved back to Newcastle Emlyn in 1856. In 1872 she married Beynon Puddicombe, a London banker, and they moved to London. Following her husband's illness, they moved back to Tre-saith in 1900. She won first prize with a story in the National Eisteddfod in 1894. Her first novel, A Welsh Singer, was published in 1897. She published ten novels during the next twelve years, including, Torn Sails (1898), By Berwyn Banks (1899), Garthowen (1900), AWelsh Witch (1902), On the Wings of the Wind (1903), Hearts of Wales (1905) and Queen of the Rushes. She also published a volume of short stories, All in a Month (1908). She died in 1908.

The group of papers deposited in 1931 was returned to the depositor in 1934, but subsequently redeposited after the death of D. Roy Evans by his daughter, possibly with some omissions.

Deeds and papers accumulated by D. Roy Evans, comprising the papers of Mrs A. A. Puddicombe (Allen Raine), including manuscripts of her work, [1894x1908] and an eighteenth-century manuscript formerly belonging to her; newspaper cuttings relating to the death of, and the inquest upon, Sarah Jacobs of Llether-noyadd-ucha, Llanfihangel-ar-arth, co. Carmarthen, the Welsh fasting girl, 1869-1870; a copy of Mercvrivs Avlicvs, communicating the intelligence and affairs of the Court, to the rest of the Kingdom. From May to May 11, 1645, recording the victory of General Charles Gerard over Major-General Laugharne before Newcastle Emlyn; and deeds and documents relating to properties in the parish of Laugharne, 1609-1756, and to properties in the counties of Cardigan, Carmarthen, and Pembroke, 1695-1900.
