They are arranged by district and generally contain statistics and reports on fatal accidents; general observations on ventilation and methods of working at the mines; details of equipment used; a list of collieries in the district and their location and owner; and may contain comments and observations on the living conditions of the miners. Districts covered by the reports include the counties of Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland, the mining districts of Scotland, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Lancashire, Cheshire, North Wales, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, and South England and Wales.
