Helen Dunmore was a poet, novelist, and short story and children's writer. Her best known works include the novels Zennor in Darkness (1994), A Spell of Winter (1996) and The Siege (2001). Prizewinning poet and writer Leslie Norris was born in Merthyr Tydfil. He taught at academic institutions in Britain and the United States, including Brigham Young University.
