Clettwr, otherwise Tir Dyffryn Clettwr, Tir y Rhydlydan, otherwise Rhydlydan, Esgaironw, Sarne Gwnion, and Llain y Rhos Rhydd, all in p. Llanarth, co. Card., were devised in 1620 by Rees ap Jones [of Clettwr], to his son John ap Rees. In 1747 Mary Rees, probably the daughter of Rees Jones of Clettwr who married Mary Griffith in about 1670, settled all the premises upon Rees Jenkin her second son by her late husband Jenkin John. By 1798 the estate was in the hands of John Jones of Clettwr. He devised the same to his brother Jenkin Jones for life, and after his death to his brother David Jones. He also bequeathed to his brother David a moiety of a tmt called Talgarreg, p. Llanarth. David Jones in turn, who was living in Rhandir, Llanarth, in 1808 when his will was drawn up, divided the estate in two: he devised Clettwr and Rhydyrhalen in p. Llanllwchaearn which was held under a lease for 99 years, to his eldest son Rees Jones, and Esgaironw, Sarne Gwnion, and a tmt called Pantlluast, also in p. Llanarth, to his second son John Jones who became a Unitarian Minister in Aberdare, co.Glam. It appears that John Jones also became the eventual beneficiary of his brother Rees's will. A draft of his will, drawn up in 1837 when he was living in Pwllfine, p. Llandysul, devised his share of the estate to his daughters with remainder to John Jones should his daughters die without issue. -- The bundle, 1620-1843, includes the will and inventory of Rees ap Jones of Clettwr, p. Llanarth, 1620, marriage settlement of Rees Jones of Clettwr, gent., and Mary Griffiths, daughter of John Griffith of Pantswllt, p. Llandysiliogogo, 1670, probate of will of Rees Jones, late of Clettwr and now of Talgarreg, yeoman, 1798, of John Jones of Clettwr, gent., 1798, and of David Jones of Rhandir, Llanarth, 1810, and draft will and inventory of Rees Jones of Pwllfine, p. Llandysul, 1837.
