Begins: Manor of Chepstow, alias Struggle: Court of View of Frank Pledge with Court Baron of Henry, Duke of Beaufort, lord of the said manor, held at Chepstow within the said manor 27 Sept., 11 Anne, 1712, before Henry Rich, gent., under steward to James Smith, esq., chief steward. Proceedings of three Courts, all Views of Frank Pledge with lord, steward, and under steward as above. On the second Court, 25 April 1713, described as held at 'le Guim', the defaulters of suit and service are arranged under the following sub heads: New Church East End, New Church West End, Mathern, Penhow, Itton, Lanvair dys Coed, St Arvans, Hardwick, Mounton. At the same Court the amercements on non-attendance of those summoned to serve on the jury are arranged under the following sub heads: New Church, Itton, Portscuet, Penhow, Lanvaches, Mathern, St Arvans. At the same Court constables were appointed for New Church East, Itton, Mathern, Lanvaches, the hamlets of Hardwick and Mounton, Penhow, New Church West End, and a bailiff for the manor of Chepstow, alias Struggle. This volume contains in addition proceedings of the following Views of Frank Pledge for the following manors:. Tidenham, four courts, 31 July 1712-6 Oct 1713, all views of Frankpledge. Begins: Manor of Tudenham alias Tydnham, co. Gloucester: Court of View of Frankpledge with Court Baron of Henry Duke of Beaufort held 20 September 1712 before Henry Rich, under-steward to James Smith, esq., chief steward. The second Court is called a Court Leet and contains the verdict of a Jury of Survey on boundaries. The lord, understeward and steward are as above throughout. At the other end of the volume are enrolments of: (a) Lease for 3 lives or 99 years, 31 July, 1712 between Bazil Broadwood and Jacob Smith, gent., stewards of Henry Duke of Beaufort, to Mary Norton of the city of Bristol, widow, of Rye Farm, parish of Tidenham; and (b) Lease for 3 lives or 99 years, 2 October 1712 between Bazil Broadwood and Joseb Smith, gent., stewards of Henry Duke of Beaufort, to Richard Lee the elder of the parish of Tidenham, yeoman, of several closes of land called Blackets close and Blackets meade in the hamlets of Milton, parish of Tidenham. Proceedings of three Courts, all Views of Frank Pledge, with Edward Catchmayd, gent, under steward, for the second Court, and Henry Rich, gent., for the third Court. Pellenny alias Stavarny, three courts, 7 Oct. 1712-10 Oct. 1713, all Views of Frank Pledge. Begins: Manor of Pellenny, alias Tivarney, co. Mon.: Court of View of Frank Pledge of the Queen with the Court Baron of Henry, Duke of Beaufort held at Usk within the said manor, 7 Oct., 11 Anne, 1712, before James Smith, esq., chief steward.
