Roedd y Parch. Evan Rees (Dyfed, 1850-1923) yn weinidog gyda'r Methodistiaid Calfinaidd ac yn fardd, a bu'n Archdderwydd Cymru am 21 mlynedd. Cafodd ei fagu yn Aberdâr, sir Forgannwg, a daeth yn weinidog Seion, Capel y Methodistiaid Calfinaidd, yng Nghaerdydd. Roedd yn fardd nodedig, a chafodd gryn lwyddiant mewn cystadlaethau eisteddfodol. Teithiodd yn eang ac roedd galw mawr arno fel darlithydd. Bu'n olygydd Y Drysorfa, 1918-1923, a chyhoeddodd sawl cyfrol o'i farddoniaeth yn cynnwys Gwaith barddonol Dyfed (Caerdydd, 1903-1907, 2 gyfrol).
