History

Francis Thomas Gibb (c.1791-1881) of Greenford Lodge, near Southall, Middlesex, and Elizabeth (nee Hughes) of Hendrefelen, his wife (d. 1856). Francis Gibb’s letters of May 1856 suggest that he held at least some of the Hendrefelen estate in jure uxoris, and that only a death-bed will prevented the reversion passing into other hands. By March 1882, Francis’s nephew, F. Hughes Gibb was master of the estate. Between 1849 and 1881, the estate comprised twenty-four or twenty-five properties in p’s Gwnnws, Llanddewibrefi, Llansanffraid and Ysbyty Ystwyth, and the interest on money put out on mortgages.
