The text of the galley proofs was set up from the final typescript. Two sets of galleys survive, 'David Jones's set' and the 'Faber's reader's set', and there must have been a third set, a 'Printer's set' which does not survive. The first page proofs generally correspond less closely to P1, but not always.
David Jones appears to have received the first page proofs in two lots; first the preface and Parts I-IV, then parts V-VII. He probably received three sets of each, but only two survive. P6 is virtually identical to the missing page proofs which was the basis of the revised page proofs.
P7-P9 are a revise of page proofs P3-P6, and P9 constitutes the remains of the dummy returned by David Jones to the printer. P10 is the second revise of the page proofs, made from P9.
