William Owen, Prysgol (1813-1893) was a composer of anthems and hymn tunes, including the well-known hymn-tune 'Bryn Calfaria'. He was born in Bangor, Caernarfonshire, and began writing music at the age of eighteen. He later moved to Prysgol, Llanrug, Caernarfonshire. He composed several temperance pieces, and his anthem 'Ffynnon Ddisglair' and hymn-tunes 'Alma' and 'Deemster' were among his most popular works.

Holograph manuscript of the hymn-tune 'Bryn Calfaria' by William Owen, 1850; four manuscript tune-books and loose manuscript music mostly in the hand of William Owen, including many of his own compositions, (watermark 1825)-[c. 1854]; together with some printed music relating to the composer and photographs relating to the memorial to him erected at Cae Athro in 1913.
