Inset is a printed copy of a circular letter from Thomas Stephens as honorary secretary of the Merthyr Cymreigyddion Society, 184 . . ., announcing the society's intention of holding an eisteddfod on (blank), stating what the objectives of the society were, and asking for subscriptions.

Fifty-three files of unbound material accumulated by Bradney during the preparation of A History of Monmouthshire and containing press and proof copies, transcripts and abstracts of, and extracts from, manuscripts, deeds and documents, holograph and autograph letters, pedigrees and genealogical notes, press cuttings, etc., generally arranged under parishes. Much of the material is in the autographs of friends and official copyists. The volume is written in several hands of the late sixteenth century including those of Simwnt Fychan (ff. 73-75) and Wiliam Cynwal (ff. 79-81), two of the bardic pupils of Gruffudd Hiraethog, and also the hand of Rhys Cain, the herald bard of Oswestry, who was a pupil of Wiliam Llŷn, another of Gruffudd Hiraethog's pupils (ff. 4-6 verso, 101 verso-148 verso).

A few further poems are anonymous (ff. 4 verso-5, 7 recto-verso, 16, 18 recto-verso, 22 recto-verso). There are notes from a bardic grammar, discussing the 'englyn unodl union' and the 'englyn unodl cyrch', on f. 30. Notes added here and there, in an eighteenth-century hand, give suggested floruit dates for the poets (e.g. f. 3: '1500 medd Thomas Richards'); these are taken from a list in Thomas Richards, Antiquae Linguae Britannicae Thesaurus... (Bristol, 1753).

Mae'n debyg nad llaw William Bodwrda mo'r un o'r ddwy brif law yn y gyfrol, ond credir fod y llawysgrif yn gynsail i un neu fwy o lawysgrifau ffolio William Bodwrda, megis BL Add. 14966 a Mostyn 145 (NLW MS 3048D). = The manuscript comprises 'awdlau', 'cywyddau' and old vaticinatory poetry, many relating to Caernarfonshire families; poems attributed to Taliesin and Llywarch Hen; and a number of items which are unique copies, namely the works of Huw Pennant (pp. 13-17), Ifan Tew Brydydd (pp. 53-5), Howel ab Reinallt (pp. 65-7), Siôn Phylip (pp. 90-4), Sir Huw Roberts Llên (pp. 94-7) and Siôn Tudur (pp. 127-31). It seems that neither of the two main hands in the volume belong to William Bodwrda, although it is likely that the manuscript served as the basis for one or more of William Bodwrda's folio manuscripts, particularly BL Add. 14966 and Mostyn 145 (NLW MS 3048D).
