R., Simwnt Fychan, Ffoulk Prys, Sion Cain, R. Ll., Ellis Wynne, Dafydd Hepunt (recte Epynt), Dafydd Nanmor, Sion Philip, Edmwnd Prys and Ellis Rowlant, and anonymous poetry, taken from a manuscript of Edward Griffith, Dolgellau, [NLW MS 2692]; and of a free-metre poem ('Cân Boreddydd') taken from a manuscript of D. Silvan Evans and published in Y Genhinen, Vol. II (1884), p. 78. There is a typewritten list of contents at the beginning and the spine is lettered 'Cywyddau'.

The volume is almost entirely in the autograph of Margaret Davies [Coetgae-du, Trawsfynydd]. The 'cywyddau' have been numbered, possibly at a date later than the time of writing, and it appears that several folios are wanting at the beginning. The initials 'P. W.' or 'P. Wm.' sometimes occur at the end of a 'cywydd' near the name of the poet.

A composite volume, written in several hands, containing a list of 'oils, ointments, and plasters, with their uses'; 'Cyngor yr hen Gyrys' [cf. Bbcs ii, 9]; 'Agoriad byr Ar weddi'r Arglwydd' (partly in verse); an imperfect text of 'Chwedlau Odo' ('Dammhegion a scrifenwyd ar femrwn ynghylch y flwyddyn, oedran Crist, 1300'); an account in Welsh of some of the feast days, written after 1660 in an unusual orthography, 'Hynod betheu Iessu Xt. ar ei ddiwedd'; verses entitled 'Ymgomio rhwn [sic] y claf o'r Darfodedigaeth Ai Glwyf' attributed in a later hand to Hugh Moris, and 'Dyriau a wnaed wrth : 139 : psalm Ar Fessur arall'; 'Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol' [cf. Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol (1696), pp. 5-11, 14-34]; Scriptural references; sermon notes (in English); hymn stanzas; and copies of one or two parish certificates and other documents,' c. 1709-10, in which the parishes of Llangynog and Llanllawddog, Carmarthenshire and Cilcennin, Cardiganshire are mentioned. There is some confusion in the pagination here and there: e.g. p. 79 should follow p. 10 and p. 83 should follow p. 76. The end-papers are a folio from a seventeenth century printed book. Inset at the beginning of the volume is a letter, 1924, from D. Lleufer Thomas, Whitchurch, Glamorgan to J. H. [Davies] concerning the manuscript, and a slip of paper with notes in the autograph of J. H. Davies.

Five uniformly bound notebooks numbered 1-5 containing a collection made by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of the poetical works of Owen Gruffydd, Llanystumdwy (d. 1730), transcribed from Peniarth MS 124 (see 502 and 505), NLW MS 799 and other sources (?NLW MSS 18 and 11816, etc.), together with some printed items and (in 503) a few 'englynion' by William Elias. The lists of contents at the beginning of 503 appear to relate to Cwrtmawr MS 467 and NLW MS 799 respectively.

A composite volume written almost entirely in the autograph of Evan Prichard ('Ieuan Lleyn' or 'Bardd Bryncroes'; 1769-1832), with some additions by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). The volume is in two parts, the first part (pp. 1-198) containing poetry mainly by Ieuan Lleyn, with some items also by John Jones, Glan y Gors (beginning wanting), R. Ll. Ddu, Cyllidydd, Pwllheli, 1821, Morrus Dwyfech alias Morrus ab Ifan ab Einion, Owen Gruffydd, Thomas Glyn Llifon, Rich[ar]d Hughes, Cadwaladr Cesail, Sion Roger, D. Drefriw and G. Felyn, y Parchedig Evan Evans 'Ieuan Brydydd Hir', Rod. Jones y Crydd, Dafydd Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu Eryri'), Rhobyn or Bettws [Robert Williams ('Robert ap Gwilym Ddu')], W[illia]m Llyn, W[illia]m Thomas y Llongwr, Ebeneser Tomas neu Cybi Eifion, [David Owen] 'Dewi Wyn', and [John Roberts ] 'S[ion] Lleyn'. Other items in the first part include a draft of a letter, undated, from Evan Pr[ichard] [i.e. 'Ieuan Lleyn'] to an unnamed correspondent (p. 89) (a request for [the mastership of] the free school belonging to the parishes of Rhiw, Bryncroes, Aberdaron and Llanfaelrhys if W[illia]m Owen is turned out), a (?)copy of a letter, 1791, from Ieuan Rich[ar]d, Ty Mawr to an unnamed correspondent whom he addresses as 'Enwog Fardd' (p. 95) (he was unable to attend the Eisteddfod held at Llanrwst; verse in strict and free metre), a (?)translation of a speech by Mr Hodgins [sic], an operative cotton spinner, respecting the Combination Laws, and a speech in Welsh on freedom ('From Walter Davies's Essay [Rhyddid (1791) ]'). The pages following (i.e. 191-8) appear to be in the autograph of John Roberts ('Siôn Lleyn'). Between part I and part II are some items (press cuttings, poetry, etc.) inserted by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), including 'Gwaith Siarl Marc'. Preceding a number of blank pages are two letters from Ieuan Lleyn to Siôn Lleyn, the one undated (?copy), the other written in 1791 from Ty Mawr to Mr John Roberts at Rhyd y clafrdy, Lleyn, containing lines in the 'cywydd' metre by 'Ieuan Fardd Bryncroes' (another of the bardic names used by Ieuan Lleyn). Part II is in three sections, the first consisting of 90 pp. and containing poetry by Gronwy Ddu o Fôn, Robert ab Gwilym [Robert Williams ('Robert ap Gwilym Ddu')], Llanystumdwy, Hywel ab Reinallt, Hywel ab Daf. ab Ieuan ab Rhys, W[illia]m Lleyn, Rhys Llwyd ab Rhys ab Ricart, Deio ab Ieuan Du, Tudur Aled, H. ab O. Gwynedd, John Fychan o Gaergai, Thomas Llwyd or penman, M.D.(qr. Part IIb comprises 38 pp. and contains poetry by Ieuan Lleyn, Huw Ifan Gynt o Lanllyfni alias Hywel Eryri, y Parchedig Evan Evans alias Ieuan y Prydydd hir and W[illiam Evans or Fedw arian, preceded by a list of contents. The final section (pp. 11-54) contains poetry by Siôn Dafydd Laes (John Davies alias Penllyn), Lewis Owain o Dyddyn y Garreg, Syr Rhys or Drewenn, Gutto Glynn, S[ion] Tud[ur], D. Gwilym [Dafydd ap Gwilym], Griffith Philyp 'o Ardudwy y' Meirion', Daf[y]dd Thomas alias Daf[y]dd Ddu or Eryri, Ieuan Deulwyn 'o blwyf Pendeulwyn Gerllaw Cydweli Caerfyrddin', Lewis Glyn cothi, Thomas Prys P[la]s Iolyn, Tomas Derllys 'am a wn i' and Rhys Ednyfed, followed by a sketch of a ship ('Debora'), verses entitled 'Brynau [sic] Iwerddon', etc. and 'Sylwiadau ar Wneuthyriad Dyn'. A composite volume from the collection of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') written in several hands of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and comprising ten main sections: (I) The first section (pp. 1-121 and some unnumbered items) contains poetry by Tomas Edwards Nant, S[ion] Owen, [David Owen] 'Dewi Wyn Eifion' [sic] and (mainly) Robert Williams ('Robert ap Gwilym Ddu'), some possibly in his autograph. Other items include a list of books ('Catalek of all ye books that I Have'), some accounts headed 'Cost Capel garn talwyd' and 'heb Daly am Capel garn', observations entitled 'Lwybr Dyn neu Ysdyriaethau ar bedair rhan oes Dyn' by Robert Williams, a letter, 1845, from Ellis Owen, Cefn y Meusydd, to Mr Robert Williams, Bard, Bettws fawr, Llanystumdwy, containing verses by Robert ab Gwilym Ddu entitled 'Pererindod o'r Aipht i Ganaan; and a list of poems by ['Robert ap Gwilym Ddu']. There are also some press cuttings and other additions by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). (Ii) A memoir of David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion') by and in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion'). (Iii) Miscellaneous items including 'Pymtheg Llwyth Gwynedd', poetry by Huw Llwyd Cynfal, Dafydd ap Sion and y Parchedig Mr Goronwy Owen o Fôn, and draft of a letter from 'Dyngarydd' [?David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion') ] to Mr Gomer' [? for Seren Gomer ], and 'A Memorandum Book' in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') containing notes on natural history, etc. in English transcribed from various printed sources. (Iv) Notes in Welsh in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') on theological subjects including extracts from 'Patrick's Places' i.e. the work of Patrick Hamilton, followed by short accounts of Phoenicia, Palestine, Assyria, Babylon, etc. (V) An incomplete poem entitled 'Carol Plygain am Bwrcas Crist tros eu [sic] Ddyweddi ...... (Vi) Two items in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') entitled 'Cyfrifiad byr am amryw o enwau neu Sectau a ymddangosasant yn y byd' (? incomplete) and 'Ateb i rai holiadau, mewn Llythyr oddi wrth yr Ysgrifennydd at ei ewythr John Roberts', which last item includes observations by Michael Roberts on one of the questions. (Vii) This section consists of sixteen pages and one loose folio. The first fourteen pages are in the autograph of William Elias, c. 1731-44, and contain poetry by Evan ap Llywelyn Vychan (beginning wanting), D. Parry, William Elias, J. Rhydderch, Owen Griffiths and D[afydd] N[anmor]. The next two pages contain verses in English by Gr: Lloyd and the loose folio contains 'englynion', one by Moris ap Evan ap Dafydd ['Morus Dwyfech']. A note at the foot of p. 9 reads 'Oed ein harglwydd, pan dorwyd, y ffordd y mynydd Bwlch Derwin gynta, 1739, y rhan isa, ai gorphen: Mehefin 18: 1740: Wm Ellias, a Griffith Davidd o fodychen, overseers', and there is a recipe for making ink on p. 10. (Viii) 'Englynion' by Edward Charles and a number of Welsh hymns (author's name not given). (Ix) This section is in the autograph of John Roberts [?'Siôn Lleyn'], 1767, and contains poetry by Roger Thomley, Michel Prichiard, Sion Thomas Bod-edern, Gwen Arthur, William Elias, Owen Griffith, John Philip, John Roberts, Hugh Roberts, Thomas Jones, Rich[ar]d Parry niwbwrch, ? W. Ell... and John Rogar [sic]. (X) Veterinary and other recipes, mainly in Welsh.

A notebook bearing the number '10' containing transcripts of 'cywyddau' by Wiliam Cynwal (1), Hywel Rheinallt (4), Huw Roberts Llên (1) and Huw ap Dafydd (1) partly in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') and partly in the form of press cuttings. Most of the pages are blank.

A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing an alphabetical index of first lines of poetry by Huw Morys published in W[alter] D[avies] ['Gwallter Mechain'], Eos Ceiriog (Wrexham, 1823), with a few subsequent additions from Cwrtmawr MSS 222, 224 and from Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol ([Shrewsbury] 1696).

A manuscript in two volumes containing a corpus of Welsh strict-metre verse consisting almost entirely of 'cywyddau', and a few Welsh prose items. The foliation of the 'text' (original f. 1 missing, original ff. 2-21 renumbered 1-20, a previously unnumbered folio between original ff. 21-2 now f. 21, ff. 22-623 as originally numbered with 75 twice and 265 and 577 missed out) is continuous, and the division into vol. I (ff. 1-300), now NLW MS 13061B, and vol. II (ff. 301-623), now NLW MS 13062B, occurs in the middle of a poem. Unnumbered leaves of later origin than those of the text have been inserted at the beginning and end of each volume. The manuscript, sometimes referred to as 'Y Byrdew Mawr', is in the hand of Thomas ab Ieuan of Tre'r-bryn, parish of Coychurch, co. Glamorgan, the scribe of NLW MSS 13063B, 13069B, and 13085B, and was probably transcribed in the last quarter of the seventeenth century, partly from the manuscripts of an earlier Glamorgan copyist, Llywelyn Siôn (see TLLM, tt. 95, 167-73, 218-19, 268; IM, tt. 87, 154, 264; and IMCY, tt. 81, 175). It was probably presented to Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') by the copyist's grandson also named Thomas ab Ifan (see TLLM, tt. 170, 268). The folios at the end of the first volume contain an index of the bards whose works appear in both volumes. This is possibly in the hand of Hugh Maurice, tanner and copyist. On one of the added folios at the end of the second volume is a poem to the Reverend John Jones, D.D., dean of [the cathedral church of] Bangor. Both volumes contain marginalia in the hand of Edward Williams.

A seventeenth century manuscript consisting of eighty-three folios containing transcripts of Welsh strict-metre verse, being almost entirely 'cywyddau' and 'englynion'. The poems were transcribed by Thomas ab Ieuan, the copyist of NLW MSS 13061-13062B, 13669B,13085B, in 1684 (see note in the scribe's own hand on f. 80 verso - 'Llyma lyfr kywyddav Thomas Ievan o Dre'r brynn ag ef i hvnan ai ysgryvennoedd ef pan oedd oedran yn harglwydd ni iesu grist 1684'; see also TLLM, tt. 170-71). An imperfect manuscript consisting largely of a collection of Welsh strict-metre poems including a number of 'cywyddau' and 'awdlau', 1534-1593 and undated, by, and possibly in the hand of, Meurig Dafydd [of Llanisien, near Cardiff] (see IMCY, tt. 67-70, 108-10; and TLLM., tt. 72, 76-8), and transcripts of poems by Dafydd Bennwynn, W[i]llia]m Kynwal, Gr[uffydd] ap Ieuan Lle'nn Vychan, William Llun, Sils ap Siôn, Ieuan ap Howel Swrdwal, Davydd Goch, Tyder Alled, Sion Tydyr, Ieuan ap Huw, Deio Dyo Dy Benedeniol, Hari Prys Gwilim Goch ? Domas 'o sir Gaervyrddin', John y Kent, Howel D'd ap Ieuan ap Ris, and Rus ap Hari. Of this second group of poems some appear to be in the same hand as the poems by Meurig Dafydd and some in a different hand or hands of the same or a later period. There are a few marginal notes in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg').

An imperfect volume, the contents consisting of transcripts, in a hand possibly of the first half of the seventeenth century, of Welsh poems being mainly strict-metre poems in the form of 'cywyddau'. These are numbered and, if the manuscript when complete contained the whole sequence, the folios at the beginning containing poems 1-18 and most of poem 19 are now wanting. Many mid-volume and possibly some end folios are also missing. An imperfect manuscript, the greater part of the volume believed to be in the hand of the Reverend Dafydd Williams, vicar of Pen-llin, co. Glamorgan, 1662-?1694 (see TLLM, tt. 102-04). A manuscript written, 1674-1676, by Gwilym Pue [Puw], a member of the Roman Catholic family of Puw of Penrhyn Creuddyn, Caernarvonshire [D.W.B. (1959), p. 819] and containing a miscellany of verse and prose, much of it by Gwilym Pue himself. The title is given as 'Opera et Miscellania Domini Gwiliellmi Pue Cambrbrittanni M.B.' and 'Brithwaith Gwillim Pue M.B. Hefyd Gerdd yr un gwr a beirdd ereill Anno 1674: Pump o Garole Mr White, Hefyd Dau Garol o Fûchedd y Santes Gwenfrewy o waith Gwillim Pue 1674 M.B.,' and the volume is similar in content to, but not identical with, NLW MS 4710B, another volume written by Gwilym Pue but slightly later in date (1676). The contents following after 'Cyfrwyddiad y llyfr. A small imperfect volume containing Welsh poetry and an item of prose written for the most part c. 1600 in various artificial scripts by the scribe of Peniarth MS 65 [Owen John, R.W.M., I, 454] and NLW MS 13081B (Llanover B. 23), with a few additions of slightly later date in other hands at the end. The contents are as follows: pp. 1-74, a series of 'cywyddau', numbered [4]-7 and 9-23, by John Phelip (beginning wanting), Morys ap Howel, Lewys y morganwg, Robert Leia (beginning wanting), John y kent, Gr. llwyd dap Einion lygwy [sic], Sr Owen ap Gwillim, Rys ap Hari 'o Eas', Iolo Goch, and Dafudd ap Rys 'ofeni' [sic]; 75-96, 'cywyddau' by unnamed poets and by Morgan ap hoell, Llywelyn sion, and Thomas lly'n; 97- 126, 'Llyma henway y Pedwar Brenin Ar higain ofrenhinnoedd ynys Brydayin y rhaini y farnwyd yn Gadarnaf . . . There is a note (? incomplete) mentioning Mary John, the wife late of Richard Lewys, and others who entered a house in the parish of Mynythusllon (167). The date 1625 occurs on p. 165.
