The sources used by the scribe for his transcripts of poems include 'L[l]yfr ysgrif Eiddo Mr. Owen Roberts gynt o Bentraeth Mon', 'L[l]yfrau Owen Gruffydd Llanystumdwy', and '[L]lyfrau M.S. pwdredig eiddo Mr. Jonathan Jones, Colector of Carnarfon 1855'. At the beginning is a list of poets whose titles were taken from Y Greal and a list of titles of poems transcribed in full. The collection was compiled during the period 1855-9, although the fly-leaf bears the scribe's name dated 1863. The second collection, beginning at the end, is entitled 'Y Gell Gynen, ('herwydd canau cynen sydd ynddo') and contains fliting poems ('ymrysongerddi') between Edmwnt Prys and William Cynwal and Sion Philip and Edmunt Prys, together with additional 'cywyddau' by Edmunt Prys. This section of the manuscript was compiled between 1844 and 1846, but there are some additions of the period 1859-61. Recorded on the upper end paper are timber purchase accounts of Owen Williams, 1844-5. The manuscript is lettered on the spine 'Owain Gwyrfai MS'.

A volume lettered 'Llyfr J. Morris - II', being a collection of 'cerddi', 'englynion', etc. by Thomas Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Hugh Jones ('o Langwm'), Dafydd Jones ('neu'n Gyffredyn y tailiwr hir') and Hugh Morris ('yr Englyn diwaetha medd rhai Ag nid annhebig a wnaeth ...'), and anonymous poems. There are copious marginal entries which are entirely irrelevant to the text.

A manuscript of the third quarter of the eighteenth century largely in the hand of Richard Foulke of Penygraig [parish of Llansilin]. It contains 'cerddi', 'Ymddiddanion', 'carolau', 'dyriau', etc. by Hugh Morris, Humphre Ralph ('Gwas Mr. Richards Person Llanvyllin, 1756), Jonathan Hughes, Edward Rowland, Arthur Jones (1758), Hugh Jones ('o Langwm'), John Richard ('or bryn côch') (poem torn away), John Griffiths (1757), Evan Arthur, William Philip, Gruffudd Phylip, Robert Edward Lewis ('o Gwm Mynach'), Matthew Owen and Rowland Vaughan ('o Gaer-gai, Esquire'), and anonymous poems; 'englynion' and 'cywyddau' by Ed[ward] Morris, Hugh Morris, Moris ap Robert ('o'r Bala'), Hugh Llyn and Jonathan Hughes; and a prayer entitled 'Gweddi cyn mynd i Gysgu ... Dyma yr weddi y bydde yr hen Richard Foulke o Rhiwlas taid Richard Foulke o Benygraig; ar taid yma ai Gwnaeth'.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', etc. by Hugh Morris, together with a 'cerdd' by Huw Jones, Llangwm, a 'cerdd' by the Reverend Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], anonymous 'englynion, 'carolau' and some financial accounts, 1805 and undated. The volume is in the hand of Huw Jones, Llangwm, with a few later additions by Elizabeth Maurice and by Mary Richards, Darowen. It belonged to Thomas Powel, 1804, and Martha Powel, 1805, and also bears the names of Henry Powel, 1756, John Jones, carpenter, Pentregayr [Oswestry] and Martha Edwards.

An imperfect manuscript of the late seventeenth century in the hand of Huw Morys, with copious additions in a number of early eighteenth century hands. It consists largely of 'cywyddau', 'carolau', 'cerddi' and 'dyrïau' by Huw Morys himself, with a few poems in both strict and free metres by Owen Gwynedd, Humphrey Owen, Simwnt Vychan, William Miltwn [Midleton, Myddelton], Doctor Sion Kent, Roger Kyffin, Sion Sgrufen and John Davies ('of Rhiwlas'), and anonymous poems. The volume is lettered 'Barddoniaeth Huw Morys'.

A collection of poetry transcribed by Dafydd Marpole during the period 1775-80. It includes 'cerddi', 'ymddiddanion', 'penillion', 'carolau', 'dyrïau', 'englynion', etc. by Evan Williams (1774), Rowland Hughes ('or Bala'), John (Sion) Griffydd, Hugh Morris, Roger Jones, R. Evan, Dafydd Marpole, Joseph Marpole (1767), John Marpole, Dafydd Evans ('o Lan Silin'), Morys Robert ('o blwy Maentwrog'), John Cadwaladr, Harri Bynner ('o blwy Llanfyllin'), Owen Gruffydd, Mr Jones ('Ficar Llan bryn Mair'), Arthur Jones, Gryffyd[d] Edward ('o Lanfyllin') and Robin Ragad, and anonymous poems. There are numerous critical and textual observations by the scribe. Pp. 15-89 were transcribed from Cwrtmawr MS 231.

A composite volume of the second quarter of the eighteenth century containing English poetry (eclogues, epigrams and epitaphs); Latin poetry (extracts from Cato, Virgil and Ovid, epitaphs and epigrams); and Welsh poetry largely in free metres. The Welsh poems are generally anonymous but some of them, as well as one of the English epitaphs, are assigned to John Morys (Maurice) (1736-47), and there are single compositions by Humph[rey] Owen, B[ardd] C[wsg] (1732), J[ohn] R[hydderch], E[van] W[illiam] and Owen Griff[ydd] (1733). An addition to the volume contains a poem in Welsh by 'Gilielmus Didymus' (1755). . Inscribed in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen on the inside upper cover: 'Pwy a ddwyn hwn Bydd ei ran gyda Lladron yn Dragwyddol'.

Gwynedd, Sr. Owain ab Gwilym, Ifan Llwyd o waun Eingian, Howel Cilan, Mathew Browmffield, Siams Dwnn, 1605, Ifan Tew, Sion Phylip, Rissiart Phylip, Robert Humphreys [1707] (in a different hand) and John Byrchinsha [1707] (in free metre), followed by a list of contents written in a later hand. At the reverse end is the beginning of a Welsh translation of A Practical Discourse concerning a future judgment by William Sherlock, D.D. [pp. 1-11] ('Traethod bucheddol am y farn a fydd (sy' i ddyfod) o waith Wm. Sherloc y D.D.'), followed by englynion by Ed. Morys and Siôn Rhissiart, etc. and a note in pencil by St. G. A[rmstrong] W[illiams], July 8 1886: 'Cannot find a name for this note book, so as to identify it on the Catalogue'. In the list of Cwrtmawr manuscripts it is described as 'Llyfr W. Rowlands, 1700'. J. H. Davies has added in pencil: 'W Rowland see R. Ellis article on Lhwyd' [i.e. Trans. Cymm., 1906-7, pp. 26-8].

A small volume, originally with clasps, containing 'cywyddau', 'englynion', etc. by Evan ab Evan (lines from Anacreon), Taliesin, Dafydd ap Edmwnt, John Philipp, Richard Philip, Dafydd ap Gwilim, Tudur Aled, John Dafies (Dafis), Owen Gwynedd, W(illiam) Llyn, Sion Brwnog (Brwynog), Dafydd Trefor, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Iolo Goch, Thomas Prys o Blas Iolyn Esgwier, Hugh Llwyd Cynfal, Doctor (Sion) Cent, Tudur Penllyn, Edward M[orus], Sr. Morgan, Rowland Vaughan, Hugh ap Ev. ap Ro[ ] and Wmphre David. The contents appear to have been transcribed after 1744 from a manuscript annotated by Lewis Morris, and a note on p. 100 suggests a connection with BM Additional MS 14866, although none of the poems are to be found in that volume. There are a number of quotations in the margins and elsewhere from Pope, Homer, Dryden, etc. At the beginning, in a later hand, are an 'englyn' by Siencyn Thomas Morgan and an 'englyn' which is described as being on the tombstone of the Reverend Alban Thomas of Blaen y Porth, Cardiganshire. A note in pencil on the limp boards which were originally inside the vellum cover reads 'Gwaith hen Feirdd MS from Rev. Armstrong Williams'.

A volume of poetry, chiefly in strict metre, written largely in the autograph of Owen Gruffydd (?1638-1730) between 1677 and 1692. Most of the poems are by Owen Gruffydd, but the following poets are also represented: Robin Ddu, Dafydd Gorllech, John Roger, Sion Phylip, Sypyn Cyfeiliog, Dafydd ap Gwilym, William Phylip, Gyttyn Owain ('medd rhai' 'Meredydd ap Rhys' in another hand), Ifan Tew Prydydd, Huw ab Iva[n], Bedo Brwynllysg, Edmwnt Prys, Edward Morys, Matthew Owen and Hugh Morys. There is a list of contents at the beginning and the poems have been correspondingly numbered. There are 'penillion' by William Elias on p. 309b. John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') has supplied a lacuna in the manuscript from Peniarth MS 124. Almost all the 'cywyddau' in this manuscript, but not the 'englynion' and the poems in free metre, are to be found also in Peniarth MS 124, which is later in date than the present manuscript and written in a different hand. The pages have been numbered by Dr J. Gwenogvryn Evans and his report on the manuscript is in J. Gwenogvryn Evans MS 70a (under 'M[yrddin] F[ardd] 5'). If the information given on pp. 1 and 50 is correct, Owen Gruffydd was born in 1638. A note at the end (p. 238) of his elegy to Sir Roger Mostyn (d. 1690) states that the poet received fifty shillings for the 'cywydd'. There is a folio missing after p. 36 and another is wanting before p. 53.

Llansadwrn Rectory, Anglesey] to 'Myrddin Fardd'; and transcripts in the autograph of 'Myrddin Fardd' and others of poetry by Rowland Jones, Richard Hughes, Cefn Llanfair, Cadwaladr Cesail, Thomas Williams ('Twm Pedrog'), Morys Dwyfech, Huw Arwystl, [ ] 'Gutto o Leyn' (d. 1867) (beginning wanting) and [Evan Pritchard] 'Ieuan Lleyn', some printed in J. Jones ['Myrddin Fardd'], Cynfeirdd Lleyn (Pwllheli, 1905).
