Fifty-three files of unbound material accumulated by Bradney during the preparation of A History of Monmouthshire and containing press and proof copies, transcripts and abstracts of, and extracts from, manuscripts, deeds and documents, holograph and autograph letters, pedigrees and genealogical notes, press cuttings, etc., generally arranged under parishes. Much of the material is in the autographs of friends and official copyists. This volume contains letters, 1905-1914; extracts from Chancery Proceedings, Exchequer Bills and Answers, Exchequer of Pleas Enrolments, State Papers Domestic, Parliamentary Surveys, and deeds, 1146-1802; a list of rectors and vicars of Monmouthshire, 1146-1536; and 'cywyddau' of Monmouthshire interest by Guto'r Glyn and Dafydd Benwyn, transcribed by Lemuel James, Ystrad Mynach.

A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing a thumb-nail 'Glossary to Names of Persons and Places' in two volumes of the poetry of Tudur Aled (see Cwrtmawr MSS 154-5).

A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies, 21 October 1891, containing notes of lectures by O. M. Edwards [at Lincoln College, Oxford] on constitutional history. Beginning at the end is a home-made thumb-nail glossary by J. H. Davies partly of words in the poetry of Tudur Aled and partly of Welsh ballads recorded under authors' surnames or first lines.

A manuscript in the hand of Evan Evans, containing mainly poetry by Bleddyn Fardd, Lewis Glyn Cothi, Goronwy Owen and others (ff. 1-49, 56-62); and a list of feast days (ff. 50-55).
This manuscript was used for the Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales, partly for text and partly for variant notes. Peniarth MS 111 seems to be the original of this manuscript. A note on f. 12 states 'Hyd yma ym tyb i yr yscrifennodd Roesser Morys allan or Llyfr Du o Gaer Vyrddin'.

A manuscript, written 1772 (note at beginning of volume), by Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd), containing poetry from a 1613 manuscript of Llywelyn Siôn (pp. 1-6, 10-22, 26-176, 273-336); and a pedigree of the Herbert family, earls of Pembroke (pp. 177-224); a letter from W[illiam] Baxter relating to the Archaeologia Britannica (pp. 225-248); extracts; etc. The poets cited include Gruffudd Gryg, Hywel ap Dafydd ab Ieuan ap Rhys, Tudur Aled and Guto'r Glyn.

A slate inscribed on one side with eleven lines of Welsh poetry, seemingly religious in nature, and written in the cywydd metre. The surface of the slate is particularly smooth and clean.

A cursory examination of the items included in the manuscript suggests that about ten of the poems are not recorded in other manuscripts. The volume is written in several hands of the late sixteenth century including those of Simwnt Fychan (ff. 73-75) and Wiliam Cynwal (ff. 79-81), two of the bardic pupils of Gruffudd Hiraethog, and also the hand of Rhys Cain, the herald bard of Oswestry, who was a pupil of Wiliam Llŷn, another of Gruffudd Hiraethog's pupils (ff. 4-6 verso, 101 verso-148 verso).

Mae'n debyg i'r gyfrol gael ei ailddefnyddio fel llyfr nodiadau (gw. t. 251) ond oherwydd colled nifer o ddalennau ychydig iawn o olion o'r fath ddefnydd sydd wedi goroesi. Mae ychydig nodiadau mewn pensil ar tt. 247, 250-251 a thu mewn i'r clawr cefn mewn llaw diweddarach. = The volume was apparently reused as a 'Mamarandam Boock' (see p. 251) but due to the loss of several leaves little trace of such use remains. A few notes in pencil on pp. 247, 250-251 and inside the back cover are in a later hand.
