'), a list of subscribers towards a bardic chair to be presented to Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'] (the chair was to be made of Montgomeryshire oak, 'after the model of that which he filled with so much credit to himself at the late eisteddfod at Carmarthen'), 1820 (with a memorandum of payment of £3 to Mr Clayton of Kerry, 1821), a short account of an ascent of Aran [Fawddwy] made by M[ary] Richards and others, 1800; etc. The volume is written from both ends. Among the items mounted on the inside covers and fly-leaves are printed verses in memory of Mrs [Jane] Lewis, wife of R[oderick] Lewis, vicar of Llanbrynmair, 1828.

A manuscript, dated 1813, which was originally intended as an arithmetic exercise book for Lewis Richards and was subsequently used by Mary Richards to record 'cywyddau', etc. by Thomas Prees (Prys) (Plas Iolyn), Gruffudd Hiraethog, Morice ap Evan ap Eigiawn [Morys Dwyfech], Iolo Goch, Ieuan Llwyd ('o Dowyn,'), Gutto r Glyn, Rys Pennarth, Sion Tudur, Deio ap Ifan Ddu and Edmund Price, and anonymous poems, and a 'can' in free metres by Wi[lliam] Williams ('Gwilym ap Iorwerth'], Darowen.

A composite volume comprising three exercise books and insets largely in the hands of Thomas Richards, Darowen and David Richards, Llansilin. The contents include a list of names, ages and dates of death of 176 eminent ecclesiastics ('Cofrestr o Enwau, Oedran ac amser marwolaeth y Gwyr enwog canlynol ... '); a tract, 1753 (transcribed 1822), explaining the reasons for the adoption in Great Britain in 1752 of the Gregorian or New Style Calendar ('... y Rhesymmau amlycaf paham y gwnaed y cyfnewidiad diweddar yn y Flwyddyn, ydys yn alw yr Ysteil newydd'); short biographies of early and late British historians ('Ychydig o hanes yr Awdwyr mwyaf hynod a ysgrifennasant am y Brutaniaid yn yr Ynys hon yn gynar ac yn ddiweddar ...'), based on Joshua Thomas: Hanes y Bedyddwyr, Ymhlith y Cymry... A small notebook in a paper cover formed of two copies of printed conditions for printing Poems, Lyric and Pastoral, by Edward Williams, containing transcripts by William Owen [-Pughe] of two poems by Cynddelw ('Can Tyssiliau' and 'Canu y Duu [i Dduw]') and (p. [33]) of a letter in English from the Reverend Dr. Samuel. Jones, Lower Dublin [Philadelphia], 8 May 1793, to Evan Evans, Waunfawr near Caernarvon, beginning 'Your Brother, as I suppose, who calls himself John Evans . . .' [i.e. John Evans, explorer]. On the outside Iolo Morganwg has written 'Cynddelw, Gm. Owain , . . .' and at a later date 'Yw perchen hwnn. Mi ai cefais gantho mewn Camsyniad yn Ile llyfr i'm hunan, (yn) 1804'. Also on the cover is the letter 'D' [Class D].

A manuscript containing transcripts by David Parry from the Red Book of Hergest, together with other poetry, the volume being compiled before it was given to Jesus College, Oxford in 1701. The contents of the volume are as follows: A Welsh Grammar copied from the Red Book of Hergest (col. 1117), with collations by Samuel Williams from Llanstephan MS 3, p. 472 (original foliation I-Vb, 1-7); a copy of the poetry on cols 1143-1356 of the Red Book of Hergest (original foliation 7-12b, original pagination 13-168, 169-265); followed by sixteen leaves at the end of the manuscript containing poems by Robin Ddu o Fôn, Tudur Aled, Rhys Nanmor and others, together with the pedigree of Sir Rhys ap Thomas.
Samuel Williams has copied a good many of the older material in a modernised orthography on the side left blank by the original copyist. There are also marginalia in the hand of Moses Williams. A note, probably in the hand of Samuel Williams, on p. 265 (original pagination) reads 'All the Poetry collated March 27 . 1722'.

The transcripts were written on two fly-leaves of Thomas Stanley: History of Philosophy, London, 1655, in the original binding with the words 'E Libris ... Salesbury e Coll: Jesu Oxon'. on the inside front cover. Three sons [William, John, and Gabriel] of Owen Salesbury of Rug matriculated at Jesus College between 1656 abd 1658.

Miscellaneous papers, home-made booklets, etc., containing material in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') bound together in one volume. P. xliii bears the inscription 'Trioedd amrafaelion a gynnulliwyd yng Ngwynedd yn y Flwyddyn 1799', and underneath this is a list of the names of six series of Welsh triads and a note (probably in the hand of Taliesin Williams, son of Edward Williams) which reads 'This Packet contains a variety of Triads resembl[ing] very much those of the Island of Britain and that are in all probability some of the lost ones of that Class. Jan. 17, 1831'. P. 1 bears the inscription 'Trioedd amrafaelion a gasglwyd yng Ngwynedd yn y flwyddyn 1799 Gan Iolo Morganwg', and underneath this is a list of the names of seven series of triads. Following on pp. 3-70 are series of triads with the superscriptions 'Trioedd Cerdd o Ddosparth Cerdd Dafawd Simwnt Fychan Bencerdd, A Robert Fychan o Hengwrt a'i dadysgrifennodd o Lyfr yn Llaw S.F. ei hun' (according to a note added to this superscription and a further note on p. 16 this series was copied in 1799 by Edward Williams from Panton MS 35 [now NLW MS 2003] in the hand of the Reverend Evan Evans ('Ieuan Brydydd Hir')), 'Trioedd o Lyfr y Parchedig Mr. Davies o Fangor' (with added note 'Yn Llyfr Twm o'r Nant y mae'r Trioedd hyn a'r rhai a'u canlynant dan enw Trioedd Llogell Rhison'), 'Trioedd Taliesin o'r un Llyfr' (with added note 'Trioedd Llogell Rhison yn Llyfr Twm o'r Nant'), '[Trioedd] Eraill o amryw lyfrau' (with added note 'Twm o'r Nant, D. Ddu, &c .'), 'Trioedd Ynys Prydain o Lyfr D[afydd] Ddu Eryri', and 'Llyma Drioedd Llogell Rhison o Lyfr Mr. Davies o Benegos' (with added note 'y mae y rhain yn Nosparth y Ford Gron cynn amser Llogell Rhison'). P. 81 contains a list of the contents of pp. 87-121, and is followed by pp. 83-4, a series of miscellaneous triads, p. 85, a note headed 'Mesurau Cerdd dafawd', pp. 87-112, a series of triads entitled 'Trioedd Ynys Prydain', and pp. 112-21, a list of 'Dewis bethau Taliesin', three triads, eight stanzas of Welsh verse entitled 'Cân y Magwraeth' and attributed to Gwion bach, further miscellaneous triads, and a series of triads with the superscription 'Trioedd o Lyfr Mr. Panton'. Pp. 133-202 contain a series of one hundred and twenty-six triads with the superscription 'Llyma Drioedd Ynys Prydain sef ydynt Trioedd Cof a chadw a gwybodaeth am hynodion o Ddynion ac o bethau a fuant yn Ynys Prydain ac ar ddamwain a damcwydd i Genedl y Cymry' reputedly compiled by Thomas Jones of Tregaron ['Twm Siôn Cati'] in 1601 from the works of Caradawc Nant Garfan and Ieuan Brechfa and copied [by Edward Williams] from a volume belonging to the Reverend Mr. Richards of Llanegwad [co. Carmarthen] then on loan to Rys Thomas, printer, and the Reverend Mr. Walters of Pont Faen, Glamorgan (see the notes at the beginning and end of the series on p. 133 and p. 202). This is the series of triads generally known as 'The Third Series of Trioedd Ynys Prydain' the text of which was published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales . . ., vol. II, 1801, pp. 57-75. In one instance notes have been written on the dorse of a printed leaflet containing proposals for publishing 'A Welsh Paraphrase on St. Matthew's Gospel or a Translation of Dr. Clarke's Paraphrase . . .' by the Rev. Richard Jones, curate of Ruthin, in 1799, and in another on the dorse of a printed leaflet announcing the printing of Edward Williams's two volumes of English verse Poems Lyric and Pastoral.

Mary Richards [presumably of Darowen], whose bookplate appears inside the upper cover of the volume, has subsequently added transcripts of 'awdlau' and 'cywyddau' by Sion Tudur, Lewis Glynn Kothi, Tudu[r] Aled, Iorwerth Fynglwyd, Gruffudd ap Jenkin ap Llywelyn Vychan, [William Llyn] pp. 352-51, Iolo Goch, Raff ab Robert, Henri Humphreys, and Dafydd ap Gwilim.

A manuscript containing Welsh laws and pleadings. There is a pen and ink sketch of a plough on p. 105. The margins of pp. 38-95 contain index words to the subject-matter in the autograph of William Salesbury, as in Mostyn MS 159, to which pp. 123-124 belong. At the foot of pp. 123-124 there are notes in the hand of Gruffydd Dwnn. There is also an englyn attributed to Iolo Goch in the hand of William Salesbury at the top of p. 72. The contents of the remainder of this manuscript consist of excerpts, as well as some later pleadings (e.g. p. 42). At p. 123 is a fragment of the Grail, being two columns of Mostyn MS 159.
From the invocations 'Gwenoc' (pp. 76, 112), 'Gwenod : Gwnnen' (pp. 56, 110), 'Gwenoc : Gwnen : Gwinionyd' (p. 111), and 'Gwenoc : Gwnen Gwinionyd ywch kerdin' (p. 120), it is inferred that this manuscript was written in the parish of Llan Wenog, Cardiganshire, or by a native of that parish, and the text furnishes an interesting specimen of the dialectical peculiarities of south Cardiganshire. Llanwnnen is an adjoining parish to the north-east. Both Llanwenog and Llanwnnen parishes were in the upper division of the ancient lordship of Gwynionydd. Castell Gwynionydd is supposed to have been on the summit of Côd y Vôl, near Llandysul, where the river Cerdin falls into the Teifi a little north of the church. The text of pp. 1-38 corresponds practically with pp. 464-588 of the 'Dimetian Code' in vol. i of The Ancient Laws & Institutes of Wales. The text at pp. 51-56 of this manuscript corresponds to pp. 366-378 of Volume ii of The Ancient Laws & Institutes of Wales, pp. 73-74 to pp. 122-124 and 152, and pp. 96-97 to p. 342.
