History

The Welsh National School of Medicine was formally established at Cardiff by charter on 5 February 1931 after a lengthy and somewhat acrimonious debate. Two medical departments had already been set up at Cardiff in 1893; the forerunners of the School of Medicine which was a part of the University College of Cardiff as opposed to the new Welsh National School of Medicine which was a School of the University.
