'The Wall' was first published in Poetry, LXXXVII, No 2, Chicago, November 1955, and reprinted in the David Jones Special Issue of Agenda, Vol. 5, Nos. 1-3 (Spring-Summer, 1967). David Jones received the Harriot Monroe Prize for the poem. 'The Wall' and 'The Tutelar of the Place' were broadcast by the BBC in 1956. David Jones has dated the poem on page 14 'c.1952, but using, in part some fragments written c.1940.'
