Transcripts by Walter Davies of Lewis Morris's 'Bonedd y Saint', of pedigrees of some of the saints and some Welsh chieftain families, of a long letter from Sir Samuel Rush Meyrick to Angharad Llwyd dealing with hereditary insignia, and of pedigrees from 'Llyfr Cae Cyriog' (now MS. 7008).

A manuscript containing a transcript of Henry Perry and William Salesbury: Eglvryn Phraethineb (London, 1595), with marginalia and short poems; cywyddau, englynion and other poetry; miscellaneous extracts; miscellanea mainly in the hand of John Lloyd (1733-1793), Caerwys (father of Angharad Llwyd); a pedigree of the Pennant family; numerous culinary and medical recipes; an essay by Angharad Llwyd (1780-1866) on Welsh genealogies.

A manuscript containing a historical account by Angharad Llwyd (1780-1866) of castles in Montgomeryshire and Denbighshire; transcripts by Angharad Llwyd of Northop parish registers, of pedigrees of Welsh and English families, of an inventory, 1637, of Sir Peter Mutton's goods, of Llewenni rents, 1638, of monuments at Gresford church, and of correspondence, 17 cent., etc. relating to Gwysaney; a letter from Hester Lynch Piozzi (1741-1821); a letter, 1705, to Robert Davies, Llannerch; miscellaneous correspondence and deeds, etc., 17-18 cents.

The file comprises a display of the arms of Sir William Morgan of Tredegar (c.1560-1653), "nowe liveinge", and his ancestors as far back as Cadifor Fawr and 'Bellyr'. The roll is worn and barely legible in places.

Armorial pedigree roll of the Morgan family of Crindai, showing the descent of William Morgan of Crindai (b. c.1617, fl. 1663) from the generation of Miles fitz Walter (c.1097-1143), earl of Hereford. The roll appears to be contemporanous with the Morgan pedigree rolls of 1633 (P 1/6-7).

A paper pedigree of the Morgan family of Tredegar, mounted on linen. The original pedigree starts with Sir William Morgan (c.1560-1655), and is continued to the generation of Jane Morgan (1731-1797). The pedigree is then carried down in a 19th century hand to the generation of Godfrey Charles Morgan (1831-1913), although the last dated entry is the death of his grandfather, Sir Charles Morgan in 1846.

Pedigree roll drawn by Water Hopkins, and finished at Brecon, 10 Dec. 1633, showing Sir William Morgan of Tredegar's lines of descent from various great personages, including from Edward I, king of England; Alfonsus, king of Castille; Philip, king of France; Peter, king of Spain; William, earl of Henalt [Edward III's father-in-law]; Edmund of Woodstock, earl of Kent; Richard, earl of Arundel; Roger Quincy, earl of Winchester; William, earl of Ferrers; John, lord Wake; James, lord Audley; Walter Devereaux, lord Ferrers of Chartley; Ralph, lord Boteller; Robert, lord Whittney; and Thomas, lord Roch. -- The descents are padded to some extent, with some lines of descent effectively duplicating others, including those showing Sir William Morgan's descent from Edward II, Edward III and Edmund of Langley, duke of York, son, grandson and great grandson of Edward I; and from Thomas Holland and Edmund Holland, earls of Kent, the grandson and great grandson of Edmund of Woodstock, earl of Kent. -- The roll encloses three pages of notes by Octavius Morgan, including "this pedigree is a good illustration of the practice of ostentatious pedigree making which prevailed in the reigns of Elizabeth I, James I & Charles I. It probably took its use from the researches which were made in the time of Henry VII to ascertain the Tewdwr descent, and was revived again in the time of Edward VI when a great stir was made to draw out the Herbert pedigree on the creation of the second Earl of Pembroke ..."

The pedigree begins with Maymark, lord of Brecknock, Gwrgan, prince of Glamorgan, Rees ap Theodor, king of south Wales, Griffith ap Conan, king of north Wales, and king William the conqueror, and continues to William Morgan of Dderw, and Blanche his wife, the daughter of Sir William Morgan of Tredegar. Each person has a painted heraldic shield. Several of the males in the final generations include the date '1633', suggesting that they were alive at the time the pedigree was prepared. These include William Morgan of Dderw, esq., his father Morgan Llywelyn of Ystradfellte and his father-in-law Sir William Morgan of Tredegar, and Sir William's son William Morgan of Machen, as well as the more distantly related Sir Harry Williams, Harry Williams, esq., his son, and Thomas Price, esq. There are a very few later annotations, one dated 1843, which appear to be in the hand of Octavius Morgan.

The pedigree begins with Caradog Fraich Fras, prince between Wye and Severn, Gwrgan ap Hywel, king of Glamorgan, and William the conqueror, duke of Normandy, and continues to Morgan Llywelyn of Ystradfellte and Gwladys his wife, daughter of David Gwyn ap Gwalter ap Rosser of Kevenvedw. Most persons have a painted heraldic shield. Several of the males in the final generations include the note 'now liveinge 1622', including Morgan Llywelyn and his father Llywelyn David, Sir Henry Williams of Gwernyfed, and Thomas Price, esq. There are a very few later annotations, none of them dated.

A paper pedigree mounted on linen of the descendants of Sir William Morgan (c.1560-1655) of Tredegar, to the fifth generation, William Morgan (d. 1763). The linen is endorsed "Sir W'm Morgan KB 1730", although dated pencil annotations to the pedigree continue to 1792.

Manuscripts, [late 12 cent.]-[early 20 cent.], formerly part of the library of the Mostyn family of Mostyn Hall, Flintshire, comprising transcripts and extracts from Giraldus Cambrensis, Geoffrey of Monmouth, Dares Phrygius, Nennius, Gildas, David Jenkins (Judge Jenkins), Sir John Wynn of Gwydir, Lydgate's 'Life of Our Lady', Leland's Itinerary, 'Chroniques de France', historical manuscripts such as Brut y Tywysiogion and Brut y Brenhinoedd, Welsh romances and the Mabinogion; collections of mainly Welsh poetry, among them the seventeenth-century volumes Llyfr Coch Nannau and Llyfr Gwyn Corsygedol, containing poems by Dafydd ap Gwilym, Guto'r Glyn, Tudur Aled, Siôn Cent and others; genealogies, pedigrees and histories; official papers relating to Caernarvonshire; catalogues of the Mostyn and Gloddaeth libraries, 1692-1842; etc.

A miscellaneous collection of pedigrees made by Thomas Langford between 1611 and 1625, partly out of the collections of other Welsh genealogists. There are several tables of the Langford family, with the remainder of the volume containing pedigrees from all parts of Wales and from border counties, particularly Cheshire and Shropshire.
There are also some copies of documents mainly relating to Montgomeryshire, including a list of sheriffs, a rental of the manor of Llanerchydol, 1559 (f. 168), etc. In addition to pedigrees, there are some notes of the arms of English families (ff. 156-162), and of the creations of noblemen from Edward the Confessor to Elizabeth (ff. 144 verso-155 verso). The Hokleton pedigree (ff. 45 verso-46), was written by Richard Broughton of Oulbry.

Miscellaneous notes and papers of Iolo Morganwg, [18 cent., last ¼]-[1830s], on a variety of subjects, including (mainly Welsh) history (E8/1), religion (E8/2), Welsh and English literature, including Dr Johnson (E8/3), Bardism (E8/4) and biography and genealogy (E8/5); together with further bundles of miscellaneous notes and papers, retained in original order (E8/6-9), with subjects including politics, printing and Poems Lyric and Pastoral, 1784-[c. 1809] (E8/6), patriarchal religion, priestcraft and Lewis Morris (E8/7), poetry and monumental inscriptions (E8/8) and salmau (E8/9); and a case containing notes on Welsh manuscripts in the British Museum and at Jesus College, Oxford (E8/10).

Miscellaneous notes broadly relating to Welsh and Glamorgan history, Welsh literature and related subjects. They comprise: bundles of loose papers (T3/1-2) and notebooks (T3/3-14) containing notes and memoranda on a variety of historical subjects, including Bonedd y Saint; notebooks and loose notes on Welsh poetry and poets (T3/15-18); miscellaneous notes on sayings, idioms, etc. (T3/19); a few recipes for ink and toothache (T3/20); miscellaneous fragments, together with three maps drawn on tissue paper (T3/21); a bundle of annotated wrappers used by Taliesin to sort some of his and his father's papers (T3/22 – see also T13/7); six booklets, 1838-1839, containing extracts from manuscripts relating to Wales at the British Museum and Bodleian Library (T3/23); a bundle of foolscap sheets containing mostly genealogical texts relating to Welsh saints and legendary figures (T3/24); and a transcript of a lecture on Oriental languages 'Delivered by Professor [Duncan] Forbes at K[ing's] C[ollege] London', November 1837 (T3/25).

Notes on Welsh history, with a genealogical table.

A composite volume containing a transcript, with copious annotations, by William Thomas, Congregational minister, Bwlchnewydd, near Carmarthen, of the register of Pant-teg Congregational Church, Abergwili, 1690-1813. The transcript was completed on 3 October 1860. The volume also includes a letter from Wm. Thomas, Bwlchnewydd, to the Reverend T[homas] Rees, Ind[ependent] minister, Beaufort [aft. of Swansea, author of History of Protestant Nonconformity in Wales, etc.], 1860 (enclosing the transcript with comments, references to James Owen's books on baptism and to the Cilgwyn church register); transcripts, made 21-24 November 1871, of a lease of the chapel, 1751, and of articles of agreement, 1728, relating to the estate of Thomas Bowen of the parish of Newchurch, a trustee of the church; and extracts, 1764-1782, taken in 1875 from the parish register of Llanegwad (burials of Christmas Samuel, minister of Pant-teg, 1764, and David Richards, curate of Llanegwad, 1782). At the end, in the hand of Alcwyn C. Evans, are a brief list of contents of, and an index to, the Golden Grove Books of Pedigrees.

Pedigree and achievement, 1591, of Francis Vaughan (Vychan or Vichan, d. 1597), of [Sutton-upon-Derwent], Yorkshire, compiled by Thomas Jones (Twm Siôn Cati) of Fountain Gate, Cardiganshire, and probably executed by Richard Adams 'paynter of Ludlow' (c.f. NLW Roll 226), with fifty-three fully painted coats of arms, mostly impaled and many quartered.
The pedigree is traced from 'Kradog Vraychvras, Earle off Herefourde', 'Iustyn ap Gurgan, K[ing] of Glamorgan & Morganog', 'Ryes Tewder [Rhys ap Tewdwr], King off Southwales', 'Griffith ap Kynan, King off Northwales', and 'Bleddyn ap Kynvin, Prynce off Powys', as well as from Edward I. Additional information is enclosed in twelve cartouches, mostly scattered throughout the top third of the pedigree, with one each in the bottom corners. The pedigree most closely resembles 'Style 1' in Michael Powell Siddons, Welsh Pedigree Rolls (Aberystwyth, 1996), p. 11. Vaughan's grandfather was Thomas Vaughan of Porthaml, Talgarth, Breconshire; the family's association with Yorkshire began only with Francis's father, John, who settled there early in the reign of Elizabeth I. Francis Vaughan was chief steward of crown lands in the East Riding from 1580, High Sheriff of Yorkshire, 1594-95, and was killed in Ulster, in service to the crown, in July 1597.

Pedigree and achievement, 1584, of Gawen Goodman of Ruthin, compiled by Simwnt Fychan and drawn by Richard Thomlyns of Denbigh, with eighty-eight other coats of arms, nearly all fully painted.
The pedigree shows Goodman's descent, through the female line, from twenty-five prominent ancestors, mostly Welsh, represented by twenty-five shields in two rows at the top of the pedigree; the arms of royal houses are surmounted by gold crowns. The remaining sixty-three coats of arms, the majority of which are impaled, are scattered throughout the pedigree. Personal names are enclosed in roundels. The pedigree includes Gawen's younger brother Gabriel (Dean of Westminster, 1561-1601) and other siblings, as well as Gawen's children and those of his other brother Godfrey. The achievement is placed at the lower right-hand base.

Pedigree roll, [1810x1819], of, and probably in the hand of, the Rev. John Bowen of Bath, incorporating seventy-five coats of arms, nearly all impaled and most fully painted by an unnamed artist, some surmounted with crests or crowns and all set within canopies, tracing Bowen's ancestors primarily from Caradog Fraichvras and Brychan [Brycheiniog] (f. 5), as well as Bleddyn ap Maenarch (f. 20).
The pedigree is based on 'the pedigree and achievements of Robert Bowen of Bally Adams' [in Queen's County (now Co. Laois), Ireland], a roll (now lost) of 1608 by Thomas Jones of Fountain Gate, Tregaron, together with a continuation of Robert Bowen's line to 1720 by William Hawkins, Ulster King of Arms (f. 32 verso). Three main lines of descent are depicted, originating with Caradog Fraichvras (f. 5), Brychan (f. 5) and Cadwaladr (f. 9) and ending with John Bowen (f. 34), with a single generation on each panel. Preceding these are the ancestors, some spurious, of Caradog and Brychan (ff. 2-4), together with a 'Regal Line' (ff. 2-8). Some collateral lines are also shown alongside the main lines of descent (ff. 29-30, 32-35); however in nine instances (ff. 4 verso-5 verso, 21 verso-23 verso, 27 verso-33 verso (versos only)), for reasons of space, the collateral lines extend onto the versos, most significantly to show the Bowens of Ballyadams (ff. 30 verso-32 verso). The early lineages (ff. 2-4), 'Regal Line' (ff. 2-8) and collateral lines are depicted without heraldry, other than occasional blazoning. Various notes have been added in the same hand, including lists of the children of Brychan Brycheiniog (ff. 6 verso-9 verso), a description of a monument to the Bowen family in Ballyadams (f. 30 verso) and notes on the original pedigree (f. 32 verso) and Thomas Jones (f. 36 verso). A few later annotations, to 1832, are on f. 34. A painted figure of a woman holding in her left hand a shield displaying the Bowen arms and in her right hand a pedigree roll is on f. 1. The matches shown in the line of Roger ap John of Llanfrynach (see f. 27) differ significantly from those in P. C. Bartrum, Welsh Genealogies A.D. 300-1400 (Cardiff, 1974), pp. 863, 865.
