History

The Wales for the Assembly Action Committee, and Research Sub-committee, was an organisation campaigning for Welsh devolution, active from 1975. Following the passing of the Wales Act 1978 enabling devolution, the government held a referendum on whether to implement its provisions in 1979. The Action Committee was replaced by the "Wales for the Assembly Campaign: Ymgyrch Cymru dros y Cynulliad", an independent all-party campaign in favour of devolution of Wales in the Referendum of 1st March 1979. The referendum was a major defeat for the pro-devolution cause.
