History
The Bennett family were living in the vicinity of Trefeglwys, Montgomeryshire, in the early seventeenth century. Nicholas Bennett lived in Glyntrefnant, Trefeglwys, in 1628. His great-grandson, Edward Bennett (1668-1712), married Jane Bowen in 1695, and was living in Glanyrafon, Trefeglwys, by 1701. The property eventually descended to Nicholas Bennett (1792-1873). He and his wife Sarah had three children, Nicholas (1823-1899), Mary (1826-1860) and Edward. Mary married John Owen (d c. 1890) of Llawrpenegoes, Penegoes, Montgomeryshire, and they had two sons. One of these, Nicholas Bennett Owen, was adopted by his uncle Nicholas Bennett after his mother's death. He inherited Glanyrafon, but by 1940 was living at Dewisbren, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire. The other son was Dr John Vaughan Owen (1859-1940) of Glasgoed, Llanidloes. His children included Bennett Vaughan Owen (d 1964) of Dolwen, Llanidloes, C. E. Vaughan Owen (1901-1981), of Glasgoed, and Mrs M. V. Wynne Jones. Evan Jones of Dolgoed, Talyllyn, Merionethshire, married Sydney Rowland of Dewisbren in c. 1738. Their son, John Owen (otherwise John Owen Jones, died 1796), married Mary Vaughan (died 1815), daughter and heir of Hugh Vaughan of Llawrpenegoes, in 1770. Their son, Evan Jones Owen (d c. 1849), lived at Llawrpenegoes, and he and his wife Mary had three sons, Evan, John and Hugh Owen. John Owen married Mary Bennett of Glanyrafon.
