History

The International Missionary Council was established in 1921 as an interdenominational Christian body to coordinate the activities of 'sending societies' (fundraising organisations) and 'field bodies' (overseas missionary operations). It became associated with the World Council of Churches in 1939, and, in 1961, it became integrated with the WCC as its Commission on World Mission and Evangelism. In Britain, Councils were established, one of which was the United Missionary Council for Wales.
