Administrative history

The Newtown and Llanidloes Poor Law Union, Montgomeryshire, formed in 1837, covered 17 parishes, including the parish of Trefeglwys; in accordance with usual practice, the Union was overseen by a Board of Guardians, but rates were collected at parish level. The Board of Guardians and Poor Law Unions were abolished following the Local Government Act 1929. In 1871, the Trefeglwys School Board was responsible for Gleiniant School, Llawr-y-glyn School and Staylittle School in the parish of Trefeglwys. The Llangurig School Board, Montgomeryshire, was responsible for Llangurig Village School, Cwmbelan School and Pant-mawr School in the parish of Llangurig. In 1902, County Councils took over the responsibility of School Boards.
