Will of Thomas Mathews of p. St George Bloomsbury, co. Mddx, esq. Besides various legacies, he creates wife Millicent Mathews, sister-in-law Hester Fuller, Mr John Baynard Junior of the Navy Office, London, gent., cousin Charles Jones of Llandaf, gent., and Mr John Scot his late secretary, as trustees of his castles, manors, m's etc. in co’s Mddx, Glam. and Mon., for a term of 500 years in trust to pay an annuity of £300 for his wife for life, annuities of £100 to each of the daughters of his son Major Thomas Mathews for the life of the said Major Mathews, an annuity of £700 for the said Major Mathews for life, legacies of £4000 to each of his granddaughters Jane Mathews, Ann Mathews, Henrietta Mathews and Milicent Mathews on reaching the age of 25 or on their marriage days, with an allowance for their maintenance and education until then, and an allowance of £400 to his grandson Thomas Mathews until he reaches the age of 21, and afterwards to the use of his said grandson Thomas Mathews. Property includes castles, manors etc. in co’s Mddx, Glam. and Mon., a diamond ring given to the testator by his grandfather Sir Thomas Armstrong, who requested that it never go out of the family but be kept in memory of the donor, king William III, and a leasehold house in Hart Street, Bloomsbury. The only other relative named is cousin Andrew Robinson, esq. Wrapper endorsed: 'One part of Admiral Mathew's will'.
