Biographical history

All members of the Theological Senate were approved teachers on the teaching staff of the Associated Theological Colleges and teaching courses recognised by the University for degrees in Divinity. Its chairman was the Dean of Divinity, elected by the members. It considered and made representations to the Theological Board on any matters relating to studies and examinations in the Faculty of Theology. It is possible that The Union of Theological Colleges may well have been the Theological Senate's predecessor before 1904 when the earliest minutes are extant.

The activities of the Theological Senate came to an end following re-organisation of the University by Supplemental Charter in 1920 in the wake of the Report of the Royal Commission on University Education in Wales (the Haldane Commission) which reported in 1918. Its duties were taken over by the Faculty of Theology in 1921 under the auspices of the Academic Board.
