History

Dora Thatcher (1912-1985) from Newport in Pembrokeshire was a writer of children's books, stories, plays and articles. Her books, such as ‘Henry the Helicopter’ and ‘Tommy the Tugboat’, were for children aged between five and eight, and were published by the Brockhampton Press of Leicester. Many of the short stories were published in ‘Sunny Stories’ and the ‘Fishguard County Echo’ and were also submitted to other magazines and publishers. Her relationship with the author Joan Cass (file 30) is unknown, except that they both wrote children's books and shared the same publisher.
