Scope and content

The manuscript has been written from both ends. The earliest portion contains copies of documents relating to the bishopric of Norwich about 1686, when William Lloyd was bishop there. Ellis Lloyd, of the Inner Temple, acted as steward for bishop Lloyd, and the papers copied in the manuscript relate to the delivery of the records of the temporalities of the diocese to him.
The later portion relates to Denbighshire, and includes: a list of bridges reparable by the county of Denbigh; 'An account of some Bridges taken out of the Quarter Sessions Records wch I found in a booke lent me by the Honoble. Sr. John Trevor, Master of the Rolls'; a table for calculating assessments of the several divisions of the Hundred of Bromfield and Yale; an assessment of 2d. in the £ upon the parish of Ruabon, 1694; an examined copy of a tax of 4s. in the £ assessed upon the Hundred of Bromfield and Yale, 1693; a table showing the division of a charge of £5,100 upon the county of Denbigh in 1697; an estimate of the value of messuages in p. Ruabon in 1702; etc. Ellis Lloyd, the scribe of this manuscript, and who appears to have lived at Ruabon, is not to be confused with Ellis Lloyd of Rhiwgoch (see MSS 65, 66, 68).
