Highway rate receipt and payment book, 1887-90, for the parish of Llangathen, co. Carmarthen.

A ledger used originally to record the accounts, 1852-3, of Ochr y Foel Lead Mine, probably in Gwernafield, co. Flint (pp. 1-47), and later the accounts, 1869-74, of Griffith Edwards, shipowner and auctioneer, and Jane Edwards, coal dealer, Barmouth, co. Merioneth (pp. 48-228 passim). The volume was finally used by Lucy Mary Morris (d. 1958), and her daughter Lucy Irene Morris (d. 1971), Porthmadog, co. Caernarfon, to record their finances, 1911-70, including share dividend and income tax returns (pp. 58-153 passim, pp. 259-74). An index is included at the beginning of the volume.

Diary for the period 30 September-9 December 1941 of Lady Megan Lloyd George (1902-66), Member of Parliament for Anglesey, 1929-51, and for Carmarthen, 1957-66, containing occasional entries relating to the progress of the Second World War with references to Winston Churchill and other contemporary figures.

Some fourteen letters, 1923-1950 (mostly 1923-1924), from Vernon Watkins to his schoolfriend, Eric V. Falk, chiefly concerned with life at Repton School and the poet's unhappiness after leaving, including two apparently unpublished poems (ff. 14-15); together with two further letters to Falk, 1923, one being from Graham B. Smith, history master at Repton, the 'Mr Holmes' of Christopher Isherwood's Lions and Shadows (London, 1938).

Eleven letters, 1854-1902, some incomplete, from Sir Llewelyn Turner (1823-1903), Parkia, Llanfair-is-gaer, co. Caernarfon, to John Breese (1830-58), town clerk of Pwllheli, and to 'Mr Wynn' [possibly Frederick George Wynn, Glynllifon, co. Caernarfon], relating mainly to the maintenance of Caernarfon Castle and harbour, and to the Royal Welsh Yacht Club.

An album compiled, ca. 1973-1988, by Margaret Joan Mills (formerly Baylis, d. 1992), containing pedigrees, photographs, copies of civil registration certificates and wills, and other genealogical memoranda, 1729-1988, concerning various branches of the Makeig family, originally from the parish of Llandygwydd, co. Cardigan; together with press cuttings and notes relating to her research.

Letters, 1942-75, to Graham F. Thomas who stood unsuccessfully as a Labour Party candidate for the Monmouth constituency in the 1950 general election, before spending some years working as a civil servant in the Sudan and Kenya. The letters relate mainly to his political interests and are from George M. Ll. Davies (6) 1943-4, James Griffiths, MP (93) 1946-75, Hilary A. Marquand, MP (69) 1945-69, Iorwerth C. Peate (28) 1942-69, and Professor William Rees (3) 1953-5.

Dyddiadur y Methodistiaid Wesleyaidd ... 1891, containing entries, in Welsh, by Owen Thomas, ?Tre-garth, parish of Llandygái, co. Caernarfon, mainly comprising reflections on his spiritual condition, and including (p. 36) a reference to his fellow-workers ('fy nghyd-weithwyr') at the Penrhyn slate quarry.

Original manuscript of the Welsh text of Saunders Lewis's address to the jury during his trial at Caernarfon Assizes, October 1936, for arson at the Penyberth Bombing School. The Welsh text, described by Saunders Lewis as 'partly strict translation but in part a separate and different composition' (see NLW MS 22951C, f. i), was subsequently published as a pamphlet Paham y Llosgasom yr Ysgol Fomio (1936).

Notes of sermons largely by, and in the hand of, John Jones (1807-75), Calvinistic Methodist minister of Blaenannerch, Cardiganshire. MS. 11336 contains a certificate of declarations and subscriptions to oaths made by John Jones (described as of Bryn Hyfrid, parish of Tremain), 16 July, 1863.

Transcripts, with annotations, in the hand of Alcwyn C. Evans, Carmarthen, of eulogies by Lewis Glyn Cothi 'To Sir Thomas Philipps knt of Picton Father of Wm Philipps Esq.' and 'To Philip ab Meredydd ab Philip of Cilsant'; and a poem entitled 'To, the Blaidd of Pentre' by 'Llew Kemes' [1839].

Three unbound volumes in the hand of Bishop William Lloyd, containing chronological tables of important world events, respectively covering the periods 508 BC-69 AD, 1570-90, and 1600-81. Fragments of two early seventeenth century deeds have been used as protective covers for MSS. 11327 and 11329.

A volume of sermon notes, in different hands, belonging on 28 April, 1825, to David Arthur of Pantycelyn, later co-pastor of Builth Baptist Church. Pages 1-74 are described in a colophon as 'cyfieithiad pigion o Gyfansoddiad Saesnig' (translations of selections from English compositions) by Josiah Evans (d. 1792), pastor of Pantycelyn Baptist Church. At the beginning and the end and in occasional blank spaces in the volume are written Welsh hymns, and there is at the end also a list of the sermons comprised in pages in pages 1-88. On page 109 is recorded the marriage of Rees Arthur [son of David Arthur] and Ann Arthur, his wife, 5 December, 1851.

A volume of transcripts by H. D. Jones, Llandrillo, of title-deeds and subsidiary documents, 1715-1846, relating to properties in the township of Vaerdre Isa, parish of Llandrillo, Merioneth, and in Talybidwell and Thwithrine [Gwythrania], parish of Bryn Eglwys in Iâl, and in the parish of Llanlidan, Denbighshire. Among the records are the pre-nuptial settlement of Edward Rogers of Bryn Eglwys in Iâl and Gwen Morgan, daughter of Morgan Pugh of Llandrillo, 1724; probate records of Morgan Pugh of Vaerdre, parish of Llandrillo, 1740, John Edwards of Maesyllan, parish of Rhiwabon, Denbighshire [son and heir of Edward Rogers of Bryn Eglwys in Iâl], 1806, Edward Rees of Wern y pennant, parish of Llanfechan, Montgomeryshire, 1819 (with administration annexed, 1822), and John Rees of Llanrhaiadr yn Mochnant, Denbighshire, 1846; and a coloured plan of allotments of common in the parish of Llandrillo, 1837. Also included in the volume is a schedule of title-deeds, 1848-1925, relating to a property previously in the possession of Sir Robert Williames Vaughan, Bart., of Rug.

A table of approximate weekly costs of pig iron at the Tredegar Iron Works, 1878-9, and particulars of weekly yields of puddled bars, refined metal, pig iron, old castings, etc., at the refineries, forges, and mills, 1879-80.

A volume of documents in support of the claim of Francis James Mathew, 2nd earl of Llandaff in the kingdom of Ireland, to the manor of Llandaff and to messuages and lands in the parishes of Llandaff, Whitchurch otherwise Witchurch, and Canton in Glamorgan. The documents comprise a pedigree showing the descent of the Earl of Llandaff from George Mathew of Thurles in Ireland; an abstract of title and an additional abstract of title based on sixteen deeds and documents of the period 1553-1814, among them being an extensive survey of the manor made in 1740; and an injunction issued by the Court of Chancery, prohibiting the sale of three fifth parts of an estate in Glamorgan or the disposal of trust monies charged thereon pending an answer by the Earl of Llandaff and John Evans to the bill of complaint of Kitty Steele, widow, sole executrix of Jonathan Steele formerly of Denmark Hill and late of the parish of Saint Mary Newington, Surrey, deceased. The volume is labelled on the upper cover:- 'The claim of the Earl of Llandaff to the manor of Llandaff, 1810'.

Letters Close of King Henry VIII to Sir Edwarde Northe, knight, Chancellor of the Court of Augmentations of the Revenues of the Crown, permitting Sir William Herbert, knight, to buy two thousand 'fothers' of lead anywhere in England or Wales or the Marches at £4. 6s. 8d. per 'fother'. Given under the sign manual at the manor of Oatlands, 7 December, 1546.
