Ten typescript articles and transcripts, 1973-1984, nearly all written or compiled by Dr Clare Taylor, Aberystwyth.
They comprise: (i) 'America 1851-1852', dated April 1973, a translation by Mari Ellis of the diary of Iorthryn Gwynedd (NLW MS 9521A), with an introduction by Clare Taylor; (ii) 'The Phillipps Manuscript: A Chapter in Early Welsh Migration to the West Indies and to the United States', 1973, a transcript of NLW MS 92B with an introduction by Clare Taylor (the introduction only was published, with the same title, in National Library of Wales Journal, 19.3 (Summer 1976), 243-248); (iii) 'A Description of Trinidad 1881-1882', 1973, a transcript of [?part of] NLW MS 17267D; (iv-vii) 'A Victorian Guide to Wales', 1973 and undated, four volumes containing transcripts from nineteenth-century trade directories of descriptions of individual parishes in Anglesey, Caernarvonshire, Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire; (viii) an article, 1979, entitled 'The Journal of an Absentee Proprietor: Nathaniel Phillips of Slebech', concerning NLW, Slebech Estate Records 4292-4302; (ix) 'Isaac Williams of Cardiganshire – the Christian poet – an introduction to his nature poetry', 1984, an article subsequently published in Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion (1986), 115-126; and (x) 'NLW MS 15505 Picton Papers and Letters', [n.d.], consisting of transcripts (and in some cases translations from the Welsh) of letters of Welsh-American interest in NLW MS 15505E, as well as NLW MS 14111D and elsewhere. Items i-iv and viii-ix are photocopied or cyclostyled, while v-vii and x are carbon copies.

A notebook kept by Dr D. Edwards, Caerphilly, grandson of William Edwards, the bridge builder, and containing notes on chemistry, physics, and mathematics, etc.

Papers, 1946-1947, relating to an outbreak of typhoid fever in Aberystwyth in 1946; an account of the history of medical services in Aberystwyth (published in Ceredigion, vol. V (1966), pp. 168-208), with related notes and correspondence, 1955-1966.

A scrapbook concerning Dr D Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981), including letters, 1926-1977, from Dr Lloyd- Jones, some relating to his decision to give up medicine and accept a call to minister at Sandfields Forward Movement Mission, Port Talbot, compiled by E. T. Rees, church secretary. It also includes press cuttings, 1926-1968, and family and chapel photographs.

Photocopies of eight letters from Dr D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) and two letters from Mari Jones (Llanymawddwy) describing sermons by Dr Lloyd-Jones.

The first group of papers, [c. 1927]-[1987] (1-72), which were received in November 1999, comprise sermon notes, correspondence, diaries, medical notebooks and press cuttings of reviews of books written by Dr D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones and about him. They also include the papers of his widow Dr Bethan Lloyd-Jones comprising letters received by her during her husband's illness and hospital treatment in 1968; letters to her daughters while on preaching tours in the USA and South Africa; letters of sympathy following his death in 1981; and papers relating to her book Memories of Sandfields 1927-1938 published in 1983. -- The additional papers, 1913-[1967], donated in February 2003 (no. 73), comprise miscellaneous papers including sermon notes, 1966-1967, personalia and press cuttings.

The August 2008 donation (unlisted) comprises holograph sermons, 1927-38, preached by the Reverend Dr David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) during his first pastorate at Bethlehem Forward Movement Church, Sandfields, Port Talbot, with some in the hand of his wife, Dr Bethan Lloyd-Jones; see Bethan Lloyd-Jones, Memories of Sandfields (Edinburgh, 1983) and D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Evangelistic sermons at Aberavon (Edinburgh, 1983). Also included is a manuscript history of the cause at Sandfields entitled 'A brief outline of Sandfield [sic] Church and its Ministry from 1897 to 1938'.

The May 2011 donation comprises mainly newspaper cuttings collated by Dr D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, some referring directly to himself, other cuttings he took from papers etc relating to the ecumenical scene etc. One handwritten page is full of numbers - the record he kept of the hymns sung (from Congregational Praise) over a lengthy period at Westminster Chapel. This group remains uncatalogued.

Papers, 1955, 1979-1982, of Dr Edward Lewis Ellis (1922-2008), senior lecturer in History at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, relating to his research for his biography of Dr Thomas Jones CH published as T.J. : A Life of Doctor Thomas Jones, CH (Cardiff, 1992). The correspondents include A. J. Sylvester, 1979 and Eirene White, 1978 and 1979.

Papers of the donor, 1970-2010, including two letters, 1970 and 1973, from Idris Cox to him, an article written by Edgar Evans entitled 'History of Company Unions in South Wales', together with a tribute to 'The bard of Bodloesygâd, Cwm Cynfal: Arnold Rattensbury (1921-2007)' and a 'Shanty for tormented tenants', 2010, by H. G. A. Hughes.

A manuscript containing a dedication by Dr Henry Perri (Parry) (1560/1-1617), chaplain to Queen Elizabeth and bishop of Worcester, to the Church of St Paul; also included is a poem entitled De Furoribus Gallicis & horrenda Parisina caede Amirallii Castibonei & regis perfidia, Narratio.

Music manuscripts and papers, [c. 1750]-1945, including hundreds of folk songs brought together by Dr J. Lloyd Williams in his role as Editor of the Welsh Folk-Song Society, and papers relating to his researches into the history of Welsh music; material relating to his interest and vocation in the field of botany, 1871-1942; and personal papers, [?1870]-1946.

Two volumes, 1823-[?1860s], from the collection of Dr John Cule, mostly containing medicinal recipes and medical notes.

Deeds and other documents, 1630-1886, relating mainly to the Powell family of Maesgwyn and to the parishes of Diserth, Llansanffraid-yn-Elfael, Llandegla and Glasgwm, Radnorshire, 1630-1886; and to properties of the Jones family of Bryncynfelyn in the parish of Llanfechain, 1651-1782.

Music manuscripts, [early 1860s]-[late 1890s], of Dr Joseph Parry, including orchestral suites, overtures and symphonies, piano sonatas and preludes and fugues for the organ (accumulated by his publishers, Snell & Sons); together with a draft autobiography and other papers, 1871-1903 (in the possession of his daughter).

Papers accumulated by Dr Kath Filmer-Davies while researching for her book Eisteddfod: a Welsh tradition in Australia (Brisbane: Seren Press, 2001). Included are press cuttings relating to eisteddfodau held in Penrith in 1999-2000 and Geelong in 1982 and 1984; participation certificates and other items issued mainly for the Devonport Diamond Jubilee Eisteddfod in 1988; a paper relating to the future of eisteddfodau in Australia prepared by the Association of Eisteddfod Societies of Australia Incorporated, 1999, and an address, 2000, given by Kevin Hein to the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Eisteddfod Societies of Australia which was formed in 1992; photographs of key figures associated with eisteddfodau in Australia; together with a post card, 1908, of the State Armory, Scranton, Pennsylvania, where an 'Eisteddfod Fawr' was held in 1908; and a programme of the 6th Eisteddfod held at Cornwall in 1998.

The papers of Llewelyn Wyn Griffith, comprising literary material, 1912-1977, including manuscript and typescript drafts of his autobiographies, poetry and prose, translations, and related correspondence; radio scripts, articles and addresses, 1927-[?1971]; personal papers, [c. 1900]-1976, including correspondence and diaries; and family papers, 1850-1951, including the papers of his father, John Griffith, and documents relating to family history.

Music manuscripts of Dr Llifon Hughes-Jones, including works commissioned for National Eisteddfod competitions; together with correspondence and other papers, 1992-1994 and undated, relating to copyright and publishing matters.

Music manuscripts, notebooks, papers relating to the National Museum of Wales and the University of Wales, and other miscellaneous material belonging to Dr Mary Davies (1855-1930) and her husband, W. Cadwaladr Davies (1849-1905). Amongst the papers is a later copy of a collection of Welsh airs, compiled and arranged by 'Orpheus' [James James] for the Eisteddfod at Llangollen, 1858 (now NLW Minor Deposit 150B).

A short biographical sketch of Dr Mary Williams (1883-1977), linguist and former Professor of Modern Languages, University College, Swansea, written by the donor's mother shortly after the subject's death in October 1977.
