Biographical history

Sir John Henry Scourfield - also known as Sir John Henry Philipps - (1808-1876), author, was born in Williamston, near Neyland, Pembrokeshire. He was sheriff of Pembrokeshire in 1833 and member of parliament for Haverfordwest from 1852 to 1868 and for Pembrokeshire from 1868 to 1876. He was made a baronet by Prime Minister Disraeli in February of 1876. Amongst his works is Dies Landoveriensis, a satire on the new school at Llandovery.
