The Advisory Committee for Wales was one of four policy committees set up to work on the major aspects of the council's responsibilities, the other committees being the Primary Committee, the 11-16 Committee and the 18+ Examinations Committee. The function of the Advisory Committee for Wales was to advise the School Examinations and Assessment Council on all the Welsh aspects of its work, and to liase with the Curriculum Council for Wales on the council's behalf. Mr H Thomas, Headteacher, Ysgol Gyfun, Cwm Rhymni, Bargoed, was appointed the first chairman and the committee included representatives involved with education from the whole of Wales.
