Nos 1-58. Correspondence, memoranda and papers relating to the Romney Street Group. The Romney Street Group was a discussion group which met at regular intervals over an omelette lunch, to prepare and discuss memoranda and social policy, and to exert influence upon the government. Its members, though various in their opinions, were generally 'progressive' and several occupied positions of importance. Founder of the club was Joseph P. Thorp, and the nucleus a group, including R. H. Tawney, Henry Clay and Arthur Greenwood, who ran the Athenaeum for a few months in 1916. Mrs Leonard Schuster made available her house in Romney Street, where the Group first met in February 1917. By the end of the year it had moved to the basement of the Garton Offices in Dean's Yard, provided by Sir Richard Garton, where the omelette lunches began.
