Ganwyd Richard Roberts (Gruffydd Rhisiart; G.R.) yn y Diosg, Llanbrynmair, ar 5 Tachwedd 1810, yn frawd ieuengaf i Samuel (S.R.) a John (J.R.). Ymddiddorai mewn llenora, ysgrifennodd eitemau i'r Cronicl a chylchgronnau eraill, yn ogystal a nofel, Jeffrey Jarman (Machynlleth, [1855]), ond ei brif gyfrifoldeb oedd rhedeg y fferm. Priododd ag Anne Jones, Castell Bach, ym 1853 a cawsant un ferch, Margaret. Yn 1856 ymfudodd y teulu i Tennessee a sefydlu fferm o'r enw Brynyffynon. Arhosodd G.R. a'i deulu yno tan 1872 cyn dychwelyd i fyw yng Nghonwy gyda'i frodyr. Yn y cyfnod yma cychwynodd yntau bregethu. Bu farw ar 25 Gorffennaf 1883, a'i wraig ym 1886.
