Biographical history

Roedd Daniel Owen (1836-1895) yn nofelydd a theiliwr. Ganed ef yn yr Wyddgrug, Sir y Fflint, ar 20 Hydref 1836, yn fab ieuengaf i Robert Owen (bu f. 1837) a'i wraig Sarah (1796-1881). Prentisiwyd ef yn deiliwr ac yn y pen draw cychwynnodd fusnes ei hun yn yr Wyddgrug, er iddo dreulio peth amser yng Ngholeg y Bala gyda'r bwriad o ddod yn weinidog. Cafodd ei berswadio gan y Parch. Roger Edwards i gyhoeddi rhai o'i bregethau yn Y Drysorfa. Dilynwyd y rhain gan y nofelau Y Dreflan (Treffynnon, 1881) a Hunangofiant Rhys Lewis (Yr Wyddgrug, 1885), y ddau wedi eu cyhoeddi gyntaf yn fisol yn Y Drysorfa. Cyfreswyd ei ddwy nofel arall, Profedigaethau Enoc Huws (Wrecsam, 1891) a Gwen Tomos (Wrecsam, 1894), yn gyntaf yn Y Cymro (Lerpwl). Heblaw'r rhain cyfrannodd golofn o'r enw 'Nodion Ned Huws' i'r Cymro, 1892-1894, a chyhoeddodd Y Siswrn (Yr Wyddgrug, 1886), casgliad o ysgrifau a barddoniaeth, a Straeon y Pentan (Wrecsam, 1895), casgliad o storĂ¯au.
