History

The Rev. William Pugh (1750-1845) was a curate and then rector of Llanfair-juxta-Harlech, Merioneth. He became tenant of the Argoed Farm which was then a part of the modest Caenest estate. His son William, and grandson of the same name, were to be tenants of Argoed for the greater part of the nineteenth century. The tenancy of Argoed estate, along with Caenest, passed to his son, William Pugh (1791-1858). His eldest son and heir of the tenancy of Argoed was William Pugh (1822-1893), who was farming at Argoed in 1851 when the census was taken.
