History

Sir Clough Williams-Ellis's father inherited Plas Brondanw from the Williams family and around 1908 the estate was given to Clough Williams-Ellis to manage and ulitmately to inherit. The house was then a quarry-workers' tenement, and Williams-Ellis moved in over a period of time. In 1951 a fire destroyed most of the house and he and Lady Amabel lost most of their possessions. He redesigned both the house and the garden and, next to Portmeirion, Brondanw was his greatest project.
