Hanes

About 1589, Charles Vaughan of Penybanc Issa, Carmarthenshire, son of Walter Vaughan of Pembrey, married Catherine Jones, the heiress of Cwmgwili. His descendant, another Charles Vaughan, died without issue in 1678, leaving Cwmgwili to his wife Anne, the daughter of John Vaughan of Llanelli, in fee simple. Anne Vaughan died in 1706, leaving the estate to her second husband, Griffith Lloyd of Llanarthne. Griffith Lloyd died in 1713, leaving Cwmgwili and most of the estate to his great-nephew, Grismond Philipps, eldest son of John Philipps of Ty Gwyn near Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, whose descendants still live there.

In 1897, Grismond Philipps married Edith Evans, the niece of Sir Lawrence Jenkins of Cilbronnau in the parish of Llangoedmor, Cardiganshire. Edith inherited the Cilbronnau estate, which became a part of the Cwmgwili estate. Cilbronnau was sold in 1978.
